Hi
I stay in a college hostel. They provide internet via LAN (Ethernet) in the hostel. Students have purchased WiFi routers to use the internet wirelessly. Howevr, since our internet works through a Cyberroam Captive Portal, and the fact that the default local IP is not 192.168.2.1 but 172.16.0.1. the routers do not work. Also, at the same time persons using Ethernet on their computers are also not able to access the internet and are routed to the Routers' IP.

Our tech support person said that the router "throws its own DHCP" instead of accepting what the Ethernet gives. He said that the routers need to be configured properly. But he refuses to help us configure routers because he claims the act to be "borderline legal."

Can somebody help in setting up the routers correctly?

Thanks

Attached is an image showing the correct settings on a laptop having access to the internet?

It is the Hostel Service and they have to help you.

If they refuse, then get your own private Internet.
