I am going to run a UT2K4 server on my PC to allow a friend to come in and teach him to play. I will set a PW so it's just us.
I am behind a router, do I need to do anything special?
Or just give him:
my ip:7777

You may need to forward the port on your router to your computer's IP address then give him your external IP and the port to connect with. On my D-Link I enter in the computer name or IP on the left side, port number in the middle and then what sort of connection is it (TCP/UDP/Both)

Go to http://www.whatismyip.com to find your external IP then you set the port number in the configuration file. So if your external IP is 123.456.789.101 and the port you set in your configuration file is 7777 he would need to connect to 123.456.789.101:7777 to join your game.

Try PortForward.com. They have game settings and easy to follow setup instructions for nearly all multiplayer games and routers. Note - you don't need the PFConfig program they are selling.

UT2004 page. ;)

Better yet, try Simple Port Forwarding- it's FREE. Great little program. The guy who runs PCWintech it is great. There are settings within the program for opening ports for numerous game servers.
