I've just put together my first box with the following hardware:

E6600 @ 2.4 GHz
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 rev. 2.0
8 GB Corsair XMS2 PC2 6400
EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512MB
Antec 900
WD800JD 80 GB 7200 SATAII (OS drive)
2 Samsung SpinPoint T 500 GB 7200 SATAII
OCZ GameXStream 700W
Samsung 20X DVD burner SATA
Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro HSF
Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit
SuperTalent USB 2.0 card reader

I had all the above devices attached when I started to install Vista and bumped up against the software saying the system volume did not meet criteria for installation. I used mechBgon's PC building site to troubleshoot and unplugged all devices except for the optical drive and the one system HDD and everything went smoothly thereafter. I had set the SATA ports (0-5) in the BIOS to AHCI and the Onboard SATA to RAID. I would like to configure the two Samsung HDD's in RAID0 and seemed to have done that in the Gigabyte RAID setup before unplugging them and installing Vista. Now that Vista is installed and the drives are reconnected (GSATAII ports 0,1), they do not show up as a drive when viewing the computer resources but in Device Manager there is a line under disk drives showing the array as "GRAID SCSI Disk Device" and under storage controllers "GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller" and "Microsoft iSCSI Initiator". Vista reports that all these devices are running properly.

Any suggestions on errors I have made? troubleshooting tips to get HDD's recognized as a drive?

Thanks

Did you initiate the volume? Right click on Computer -> Manage -> Disk Managment

If the Device Manager shows everything correctly but the HDD doesn't show, the HDD might not have been activated. Go to the Disk Management Console and initiate the drive.
