Setting up PHP, MySQL, and phpBB

Hey all,

Here's the situation: I need to setup PHP, MySQL, and phpBB on a Win2K Server. I've not worked on servers at all, nor have I ever setup packages like this. Looking for any tips/help/info you all can give me. This is for my "internship" and it is just going on their mail server (which isn't very busy), but I'd prefer not to fvck the thing up.

I found this guide on phpBB's site for setting it up under Win2K Server, but a buddy of mine says the guide uses less than ideal suggestions

I'm just setting up phpBB for my bosses & their other software developers around the country to use as a bug-tracking, feature discussion system. Its not going to be heavily trafficed and will be very limited in its use at first.

There is some package you can download that installs them all real easy but i can't remember the name off hand. Some animal name i think it was.

What's wrong with the steps that phpBB has on their knowledge base? I would assume they know best since they wrote the script...

My buddy says they're using some antiquated packages or something. He writes PHP & MySQL for IBM, so I take his word in that regard

I used the package from http://www.appservnetwork.com and it was pretty simple and stable, and it worked. You have to install phpBB afterwords, but thats simple enough.

That looks like it might do the trick. Again, can I un-select those other packages? All I'm running is phpBB so I don't need the other stuff. Thanks!

In the right forum, I would have pointed to Triad, and some of the guides listed here.

It doesn't take overwhelming intelligence to find the correct forum.

If you're too goddamn stupid to post in the correct forum, it's understandable that you can't understand the basic, common-sense, kindergarten-level walkthrough for installation and configuration of PHP, MySQL, and phpBB. I didn't have *any* web experience at all when I set those exact same three up the first time I had my own forum.

The best way to learn is hands-on with a little patience.

But then again, since you're too lazy to post in the correct forum (maybe defiant?), you're probably too lazy to do it yourself in which case I will *not* help you.

phpmyadmin is a nice addon that you would probably want anyways. It lets you admin your mySQL database from a browser, anywhere you are. The other package I'm not sure about, but there may be a way to remove it.
