Setting up monitor and computer for TV use

draft

Junior Member

I just recieved by Dell 2005FPW 20.1" Widescreen LCD and would like to set it up for normal TV use. Since I'm moving out into a place with 5 roomates, I don't have room for a TV, so I want to be able to use this.

Here's the hardware I have:
SB Audigy 2
Logitech Z530 speakers
Dell 2005FPW

On the back of the monitor, there are S-Video, Composite and DVI inputs, which covers the video from the satellite reciever. But, I'm not exactly sure how to go about getting sound through my computer speakers to play the sound as well....

I was thinking I might need a better sound card, such as the SB Audigy 2 ZS platinum or something, but I really do like this card, and have no need for front-panel inputs at all...

Any suggestions/ideas/advice are much appreciated :]

Thanks guys!

Which card would you recommend? I've been seeing mixed reviews around the site... and alot of questionable reviews on the software some of these come with. Is there a combo that is considered "quality"? I would rather pay to get something of more quality.

For connecting sound to 2 devices, there are several options:

it has video inputs as well, but you don't need to use them. just plug your speakers into the master ouput, your comp into input1 and your video_tuner into input 2

or there are wire adapters, ask at radio shack

or get an inexpensive amp

or manually plug and unplug your speakers into your comp or other device, but what fun is that
