setting up IIS

I'm trying to set up IIS on my win2k pro machine, just for a small website. i dont have a domain yet, but i thought i'd play with it and punch in my own ip address (192.168.1.100 on this side of my router) and make sure it works. well it doesn't. since i am using the lan address my problem should be in the IIS configuration right? as opposed to port forwarding in the router. i followed the directions on http://www.dslwebserver.com/ Anyone have any hints?
thanks folks.

ahah, i think i got it figured out already. always something dumb. i thought i would write 2 lines of html quick and dirty in notepad for my index, not thinking that it would save as a txt document.
