Ok, here is my situation. Currently I have a cable modem here in my room, and somehow it is networked to my dads room and into his cpu. I think he just has some ethernet card I assume. HE gets Internet acesss, because we called our ISP and they gave us an additional IP addy and we pay like 7 more a month I think. There is a Linksys 5-port Workgroup Hub here in my room with 2 wires going from it into my dads room, and 1 down to my ISA slot 3com card. Another wire from the HUb connects with the modem. Anyways. At the time, like 2-3 years ago, I know it was possible to allow my dad to have internet acess and get him on the internet without having to contact the ISP and give us an additional IP addy, etc. But now, with the possibility of me getting a new PC, I will need to get a 3rd PC on the internet, in a sort of 3 pc home lan. Its going to be in a room closer than my dads, so I assume I just put an Ethernet card in the PCI slot and somehow get a wire going into it from the hub????? Is that all Id need for this room, and this pc? Ok. And as soon as I do this, I know my settings will not be right. Ill need some ISP to get on the net with this CPU. What do I do? I dont want to pay an additional 7 a month, and I know theres someway I can do it myself. Also, will each PC that wants to be on this LAN need a Ethernet card. Caz currently, I just have my 3com ISA slot card connecting me to the net, and my dads somehow also getting internet access, but if I go into network neighborhood, I dont see him. Also, Id like to give my sister, the one with the 3rd pc who needs internet access, I want to give her access to my printer. How much am I looking at to cover all this? I have a 5 port Linksys hub. WHats a router? What else will I need, software/hardware wise. THANKS! Did I miss anything?
