the thing is i am having two computers sharring a net connection with these access point

with these settings
ip1: 192.168.1.35
ip2: 192.168.1.45

dns servers : open dns
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

default gateway
192.168.1.1

subnet mask
255.255.255.0

now the thing is iam unable to use dhcp feature of this access point
that is i have to assign ip manuallly to both pcs
the problem is i am unable to connect to the net with these stetings

and does any one know how to share a files and be able to play games (aoe 3 iam a big fan)between a xp and a vista based pcs
or pcs with commodo filewalled pcs

and how does networking with this wireless ap affect multiplayer gaming (FPS) cause i see very low fps with these ap

What makes you say you are unable to use DHCP and what makes you think you have to manually assign IP addresses?

What problem are you having sharing files and playing games between XP and Vista?

and do we have to set the router up as dhcp MAN THERE IS NO material ANYWHERE OR NETWORKING ITS ONLY TRIAL AND ERROR METHOD LEARNING

ur ri8 man i forgot to give many details k
first thing is that i dont get ip automatically for my pc and i get low or now connectivity nagg 😛
ok while sharring files iam able to access shared files on vista but in xp i get the error message that iam not authorised to view them and while playing games i get fps as low as 20 to 10 fps while single player i get i get 60 to 70 fps
and by manually assigning ip i mean i giving each pc some ip like some times 35 or some time 45 in last place of the ip

I can't tell if you are trying to connect via wired or wireless connections.

If wireless, then TEMPORARILY turn off WiFi encryption and see if that works. Also, TEMPORARILY turn off ALL non-Microsoft firewalls, as these often block important networking connections such as DHCP.

First you need to get the DHCP thing straightened out...

1. Enable DHCP on your access point.
2. Enable DHCP on your computer (set the network adapter to automatically obtain an IP address)
3. Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /renew (this will force it to look for a DHCP server and acquire a lease)
4. From the command prompt, type ipconfig and verify you have a valid IP address (not something that starts 169.)

Repeat 2-4 on all computers. If they all get a valid IP address they should be able to ping each other.

i looked at the manual. he linked to a WAP, and this one doesnt have a DHCP server.

he hasnt given us any indication that this AP is even connected to another network that might have a DHCP server, as far as i can tell.

You're right. We are assuming that there's a separate router in place at 192.168.1.1 that's capable of providing DHCP.

I assumed the access point included a DHCP server. Don't they normally?

I don't think so. That'd put two DHCP servers on the same network (since virtually all SOHO routers have their own DHCP servers), which is just asking for trouble.

your network has nothing to do with game FPS (Frames Per Second)
setting a static ip or using dhcp does not effect your fps, It also doesn't matter what ip you set.
