Setting up cable modem on new computer...

My cable modem doesn't seem to want to work.

I plugged it into the on board networking card on my motherboard and set the IP adress to automatically renew. However it cant seem to renew the IP adress and gives me an error that has something to do with DHCP? Any ideas?

You need to call your cable company and give them the mac address of the modem to make it work. If you have done this already I'm not sure beyond there.

Most cable modems are set to only allow a single networking device to connect to them, so you have to turn them off and then back on again when you want to connect a new computer to it.
