Setting Up Cable Modem in Windows 2000 Professional?

I have been using Windows 98 and Windows ME for all of my stuff. However, I hate Windows ME and Windows 98.

I purchased Windows 2000, but I can't figure out how to setup my cable modem in Windows 2000. I haven't recieved instructions from my cable modem provider (Charter), and so therefore I really can not install it.

I tired previously, but no matter what I do - I can not get the same options in Windows 98 or Windows ME.

So how do I setup my cable modem in Windows 2000? Normally I do a couple of TCP/IP Properties after I right click on Network Neighborhood, select my TCP/IP NIC, set the correct settings, and then I go into IE5.5 and have it not dial a connection. After that I restart, and it works.

However - I can't in Windows 2000. If you have Charter Cable Modem Service, or are just qualified enough to help me, please.

Do you have the USB or NIC?

NIC. Its a Com21.

First make sure that your NIC is properly installed in win2k.

Then go to start->settings->network and dialup connections->local area connection. You should be able to setup everything from within there...

You also might want the internet connection wizard: start->programs->accessories->communications->internet connection wizard.

It should be relatively easy. First make sure win2k properly sets up your NIC. Now right click My Computer on your desktop and click properties. This takes you to System Properties. Click Network Identification to see your computers' name on the network. Make sure it is correct.

Now go to My Network Places and right click on Local Area Connection. Click properties. Now you can check your settings for tcp/ip and what client you need. Set it up as required by your isp. Mine enables DHCP, i get assigned ip automatically. Disable printer and file sharing. Once you choose the right settings then go to the Iexplorer icon on your desktop and right click and choose properties. Click connection and answer the questions carefully. This should set you up. It works for me when i do a fresh install.

Exactly the same, just make sure that your usb nic is compatible with win2k.

All i did was run internet connection wizard and selected LAN connection. You have a different cable provider so your settings may be different though
