Setting up Apache, PHP and MySQL on WinXP just to tinker and test before I upload to my site.

That's what I figured... you dont think people will start shifting to Apache 2 anytime soon?

God I hope not.

I don't really know much about Apache or the differences between 1 and 2... but why do you "hope not"? Is it just not ready for mission-critical sites? Or is there some other reason?
 
The license change (which affects recent versions of 1.3) was unacceptable. It is unfree now.
The new threading stuff doesn't appeal to me, and apparently the PHP guys.
