Howdy,
We have an NT4 Server that is currently mainly used as a file share. We want to set up printers on it so when someone needs to add a printer, they can just access the server, double click the printer, and it will just installed. Currently they have to do it via IP address and it's just too long of a process for most people to understand.
So anyway, from the NT machine I went thorugh the normal Add Printer steps, added the LPR port with the IP address and it all worked fine. However, when I got to the page about Sharing the printer, it asks me to choose which operating systems might need to print to the printer. Since it's NT4, it only gives me NT4 and prior OS's and I can't choose Windows 2k or Windows XP. All of our workstations are Windows 2000.
Can someone enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong or what I need to update or whatever in order to make this work? I want it so that the drivers would be installed on the server so when a Win2k user double clicks the printer, it would just install the printer and the proper drivers on their laptop with little to no intervention required.
Help. 🙂
Thanks.
