Setting up a webserver from home using my own BW

So I just installed Apache2Triad and am trying to get this thing working. I edited the httpd.conf file and only really changed the IP address part to my IP address because I was not sure of what the other stuff was all for. I'm a complete newb to this and so far that didn't work. When I try to connect to the site using my http://ipaddress:80 it goes to my router setup.

could someone lead me in the right direction please? i'm trying to get this gallery of my trip to aruba setup, thanks.

It sounds like port 80 on your network is reserved for getting to your router settings. You have two options:

1) Change the port your router settings are on to something different; say, 8080. There should be an option to do this in your router config web page.
2) Change the port Apache is running on to something that isn't port 80, since the router is using that.

In both cases, remember to forward the port on your router to the computer you're running Apache on.

You may need to disable external access to your router's web-based configuration interface and forward port 80 to your server box.

Are you using an internal IP or external. Most routers use 192.168.x.x which is NOT external.

You may also need to forward port 80 to whatever server you're using.

Hmm....I don't know much about Apache because I use IIS. If you have Windows XP Pro, you can use IIS as well. I think it's simpler. However, I think there's a limit of 10 connections at a time for IIS.

My guess is that your router doesn't support loopback, or has it disabled. Try doing a direct plug in to your modem for a few minutes and see if that's the issue (might need to push the reset button on the modem). Don't know what you're running fo a router, but a lot of the newer wireless belkins don't support loopback.. pretty much everything else does though.

did you have to make any kind of changes? What did you install? I installed apache2triad, rebooted, and it would not work. maybe I should uninstall and just install Apache on its own and go from there ...

What happens when you go to http://localhostort? Have you started the apache service? I'm not able to access my webserver using it's external IP from inside of my own network, have to use the internal IP instead. What OS are you using?

I'm not using Apache. I'm using IIS. It's not as good, but Windows XP Pro comes with it.
