Setting up a software RAID1 later on

Is it possible to setup a Software based raid in either a Windows or Linux environment?

I'd like to get a 1TB drive for now but later get a 2nd one and mirror my files.

Is that possible?

Windows Server (2000, 2003, 2008) will support software-based RAID 1, using Dynamic Disks. XP and Vista won't do it.

With the Windows Server OSes, you convert the disk to "Dynamic", add a second dynamic disk, and tell Disk Management to mirror the first disk.
