Setting up a small network

Hello,

Sometime this year I will putting all my collection of oldish PC bits together to make a third system which I will want to add to the crossover 2pc network I currently have.

I am using Netgear FA310TX 10/100 cards and will likely use another in the third pc, I will probably get a 10mbps Netgear 4 port hub.

Do I need to have a server for the network or can I continue to use the same sort of Microsoft Home Networking setup that I currently use, what are the benefits having a server pc for a home user who wants the network for games and some file transfers.

Thanks,

Corm

No you won't need a server. I run a similar set-up at home with three computers. Peer-to-peer will work just fine for what you're doing. No real need to make one of your computers a server. You won't generate enough network traffic to matter.
