Setting up a linux box as a router?

if you setup a computer as a router, do you control the configuration via a program, or can you use it like a real router by telneting to it and using the CLI ?

i am doing the CCNA course, and it would be much easier if i could practice routing stuff at home, instead of at school.

CollegeGuy, yeh thats one of the things i was worried about. i was hoping someone might know of one that is as close to the cisco IOS as possible (in appearance and operation).

Collegeguy, that's not entirely true... You can make a router with FreeBSD or Linux using Zebra for the routing software which has a Cisco style interface and can do BGP4, OSPF, RIP, etc... Check out www.zebra.org

thanks Almighty1, Zebra looks the most promising so far.

now i just gotta get me an old crappy computer to run it on.
