I set up plenty of basic LAN's at my house using Win98SE that functioned properly without and y probs. Now with WinXP on the otherhand, I can't seem to get it to work right. Here's the hardware..

Desktop PC with 10/100 Card
Laptop PC with 10/100 Card
Linksys 5 port hub
2 Cat5 cables

When I do the "setup home or small office network" it completes on both PC's fine. My internet connection (DSL) shares properly with my laptop, but I can't seem to see both computers on the network for file sharing. I click on the workgroup (Home) and it sits there, and sits there, and sits there. It never pulls the PC's on the LAN so I can transfer files. I also use Norton Personal Fireall on both PC's, but have even turned it off completely but it does not appear to matter. I use MS WindowsXP Professional Edition on both PC's. Can anyone offer some help here? Thanks!

just access the other machines by using run... "\\<computername>" or "\\<ipaddress>"

it depends on what you are running. I use xp pro on my desktop and 95 on a slow laptop. the laptop can't see the 95 cant see the xp because it is on ntfs. just open the drive on your desktop and click on file and sharing and say.."enable sharing" dont do the wizard. it sets you up with a firewall. once the files are over just disable the sharing again.
