Setting up a Home Recording Studio

I'd like to help my friend setup a home studio and was looking at these M-Audio's at newegg. First, what?s the difference between the two models?, they seem essentially the same. Second, there doesn?t seem to be any volume control or am I just missing it?

Thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

I see no audio control either, but you can always use the pc controls.
the difference seems only to be that the 2nd system has more features, and for 2 dollars more than the first, I'd say that it's worth it to get those.

Monitors are meant to be controlled from the mixer.

I went to m-audio's site and couldn't find the cheaper monitors. Maybe they were an older model- in that case, go new...

I have a fairly high level of experience with consumer audio but don't know much about the pro side of things. Any recommendations for a good entry level mixer for PC recording use?

I got a Behringer Eurotrack 1604 for the alt 3/4 bus. When I bought mine a year ago, they were so freakin' cheap. Most of the audio snobs will consider this mixer consumer level too, I'm sure.

Would thse make a good interface to the sound card? I know he allready has a small mixer that they use so that could be connected to one of the pre-amps above correct?
