Need some help here.

I will have a dedicated Server and 9 stations over a standard Cat 5.

Now teh question is the NIC for the server, should I and can I jsut pop a 10 dollar Linksys PCI NIC in there? Or should I get a Server NIC?

If Server NIC, can someone tell me why and which is a good one for my purposes?

What's a server nic? :)

Seriously, you should use a high quality 100 mbits NIC. Intel or 3Com are your best bets for all your machines, including the server. Also, you should get a decent 12 or 24 port switch for your network.

LIVAN, you don't need one of those special, higher-priced server NICs for your server. Server NICs are for situations where you have multiple NICs in one machine and want to do things like load-balancing. A top-quality 100Mbs NIC would be all you'd need, like one from 3COM or Intel.
