I just upgraded to win xp pro recently.

Previously under win 2000 pro, i could easily set access permission for certain users in my LAN for specific folders in my PC.

Now with win xp pro, I cannot find the control panel whereby I can set certain users to access my folder on the network. When I set up a designated a folder as shared folder, it becomes free for all.

I am pretty sure it can be done under win xp pro just as it can be done under win 2000 pro, can someone enlighten me?

You don't have a "permissions" button in your Sharing tab? It's there on mine. Are you sure this is Pro? Are you a member of a domain?

Maybe on XP you need to turn off "use simple file sharing" in folder options.

Woot thanks doan, you are right.

I saw the option "use simple file sharing" and didn't think this has to do with setting permissions.

Got it. Thanks.

"use simple file sharing" makes it work like win 9x - no security
