Hi can anyone assist me here please?

My laptop is set to do nothing when plugged into the mains.

Is there anyway I can set it up so a password would be required when opened up after being closed.

Not from sleep, hibernation or having been shutdown.

Thanks in advance for assistance received.

You should tell us the brand and model. They have different ways of doing this.

I would start with the Dell Power Management in BIOS. I have that on my Lenovo Thinkpad, but it also imposes the same requirement for cold boot, sleep, hiber, etc. It relates to how you set up what happens when you close the lid.

search power management in windows

tip: lock or log out before closing the lid. (I lock it's faster)
