Setting HDD for Raid?

Tripleshot

Elite Member
I am now installing 3 maxtor 20gig HDDs in moblie bays with trhe intention to render them hot swapable, on an Abit BX133 raid board. How do I select the settings for each harddrive? Are they all masters,or are they set according to the IDE cable position as slave and master?

I know it sounds silly, but there is no answer in the manual. I question it because I will have to label the drives and bays externally to remind me of the setting so I don't mess up if a drive goes bad.It would not be an issue if they are all masters, however I'm not sure how raid detects them in bios.

Some let me know before I install all these drives in the carriers wrong, please.

Thank you.

IDE drives are not hot swappable.

As for the drive slave/master question, there are 2 drives on a chain, 1 must be the master and 1 the slave.

Thank you Fandu. I setit up in that fassion. I wondered about IDE being hotswappable, and believe it or not,I found a software program today that allows for hot swap IDE. As soon As I get this new rig built and booted,I will get back to you on the link to that software. It's a free dwwnload.

np.

I'd be very interested in hot swappable IDE drives. I was of the understanding that IDE is not hot swappable because it lacks the hardware and protocol to initialize and detect swaps while running.
