what in particular are you confused about? In a lot of cases the default settings will work fine. Are you getting a POST error or something?

Does your SATA Plextor work without problems ? I was also planning on using this drive but have seen alot of posts about optical SATA drives not working on this MB. I haven't set mine up yet, still waiting for parts.
Which SATA controller are you using ?

well I just looked again, and maybe your scor is a BIT low for your weight class (fx-55, 6800gt) So, lets get to tweakin'

NOTE: to anyone, please chime in if I make a wrong statement, don't wanna lead our new friend down the wrong path do we? 🙂

Under "advanced" find "Hyper Transport Frequency" set it to 5x
Under "advanced" > "DRAM config" set "Max memclock to "DDR550" (that is your ram speed right?)
Under "advanced" > "DRAM config" set "1T/2T memory timing" to "1T"
NOTE: the 4 following setting I'm gonna give you, will set the ram at the timings it's rated for, however I've seen ppl go much lower with this ram [ie. 2-2-2-5] http://www.viperlair.com/revie.../pc4400c25/index.shtml )
Under "advanced" > "DRAM config" set "CAS Latency to "2.5"
Under "advanced" > "DRAM config" set "RAS# to CAS#" to "4"
Under "advanced" > "DRAM config" set "Min RAS# active time" to "8"
Under "advanced" > "DRAM config" set "Row percentage time" to "4"
Under "advanced" > "DRAM config" set "ECC" to "disable" or "off" or whatever

Try thisand see what happens.

Well tried it they hyper x5 is ok however the mem timings caused the sytem to hang not boot. I am the master of cmos clearing now!!!! the sytem would not use its auto recovery to prevent system hangs so I had to remove the battery and flip the jumper to get it back up... I want to change my name to master of cmos clearing!!!....

heh heh heh. I'll do you one better. I dub <sp> you Sir. Master of CMOS Clearing.

Ok, first of all, those are your ram timings right?
second, try setting them 1 at a time, and see which one is causeing the hang up.

ya ill start with putting the dram at 550 reboot.. then 2.5 reboot if its still working 4 ras and ect... just leave everything at auto till i hit the trouble maker

I have never tried the DDR550 setting, but I,m guessing it works the same as the DDR500 setting which is useless. When I set DDR500, it resets everything in the jumperfree section to AUTO except FSB at 250. If you try and boot it attempts 250 x 10 (with a 3200+) with ram at 250 and stock voltages, mine will not boot with this setting. If DDR550 works the same way, it will try and boot 275 x 10 w/ram at 275 with stock voltages, Dooh!! I don't have a clue what ASUS was thinking when they added theses settings.

If you have any luck with these settings, let me know. I can't boot with any of the settings over DDR400.
If all the boards work the way mine does, I doubt any body can use them. Can you imagine an FX55
trying to boot at 250 x 13 = 3250mhz with stock voltages? Or any CPU with max multi x 250 at stock voltages for that matter. Af far as I can tell these settings are just for looks.

my system hangs on the 550 settings had to reset the cmos to get back into the mobo me confused...
I still have my mobo at auto on mem settings any other ideas??
