SetiQueue is Da Bomb!!!

DroolMAN!

Senior member
I have recently lost my hard-worked WU due to a downed connection (does that happened to anyone else?). I was so cheesed off then and wanted to quit doing SETI. At least RC5 doesn't loose your units if the Internet connection suddenly disconnected.

Then I thought maybe there was a proxy program for SETI, just like the Personal Proxy for RC5/OGR. Thank God, there are some of you who actually link the TA SETI site in your signatures. I visited the site and checked out the FAQs. I've gotta say that most of the FAQs are a bit dated, especially the SetiQueue guide.

Nevertheless, I clicked on the SetiQueue link and quickly searched for a download url.

The setup was relatively painless. When I ran the program, my jaw dropped. OMG! This program is F-R-I-G-G-I-N-G beatiful. I mean, the entire program is a real piece of work!

It is not only a proxy but full-blown stats server and it works over a network. I can't believe there were so many minute details incorporated. Saying that SetiQueue is a great program is an understatement. It is Da Bomb!!! Suddenly, I am having SETI fever.

The chap that did this program must have a deep passion for SETI and I truly admire and respect him for creating such a fantastic piece of program.

Now I am in an overdrive running most of my Ultra Ninja Bastiches with SETI and watching SetiQueue serving all my clients. I was having a nosebleed just thinking what I have missed all this while.

Oh man! I am doing SETI just to watch this program in action! I just can't get enough of it!!!

Anyway, whoever runs SETI, with or without a network, SetiQueue is a MUST have!

too bad I could never get it to work. no matter what i tried, the "connect now" option under file was always grayed out. i looked all over the setique website, but nothing listed there helped my problem. any ideas?

I had that "problem" initially so what I did was make a client download a WU unit via SetiQueue. It will grab 3 units at first (default) but the "Connect" option is still grayed out. But when a completed unit is returned, the option is then available and it has been available ever since.

I could be wrong but I have only been using the program for a couple of days. I will experiment with the program a little bit more to see whether I can recreate the same outcome. Will let you know the results.

that's true.. hmm.. i'll mess with it again i suppose, and i'll let you know if i find out anything. currently i'm using seti driver with setispy, and it's working well. however, soon i'm going to have multiple systems, so setique would be nice.

I have been a SetiQ fan since the old text setiq. The new one is very impressive and I find the stats very useful. It lets me monitor computers I may not physically see in weeks. I love it!

If you do as Droolman says the button won't be greyed out anymore 🙂

Droolman
Yeah the new GUI SETIQ rocks 😀 ,I'm currently still using the old text SETIQ(which was a bitch to get going!) for it's simple result log,but I'll be switching soon I guess.

I have recently lost my hard-worked WU due to a downed connection (does that happened to anyone else?).
Can't say it has as far as I remember (over 5k WU's),but then I've been using SETIQ since Feb 2000.
Did it happen when you connecting to the SETI server?

BTW the SETI FAQ at the hobbit site was for the old SETIQ!
It sounds like you'll be severly upping your output 😀 ,what machines are you running SETI on?
Another good app is SETIwatch which you can configure to watch ALL SETI clients across a LAN at near realtime status 🙂

LMFAO!😀

We are a far cry away from the time when I first asked for help with SETIQ back in November 99 & almost no one answered because noone really knew it at the time!.Also very few people used any caching app then either!:Q
(I found out via a Poll I did a little latter,I think......).

Assimilator1,

I lost my WU when my client tried to connect to my proxy server (Wingate 4.03) for the upload. The problem was at that moment of the upload, I rebooted the server and when I checked the client, it was working on a new unit but the result was not credited.

Anyway, with the use of SetiQueue, I am assured that all results are properly uploaded. I even tried simulating the reboot sequence to check whether the WU would be lost halfway through the upload but SetiQueue held back the WU which is why I L-U-V this program.

As for the computers that I am using to run SETI@Home, the following are my rig list together with the average time and units per day: -

Athlon 1200 - 5:39 (4)
Dual Pentium III 600 - 10:48 (4)
Dual Pentium II 550 - 11:20 (4)
Dual Pentium II 400 - 11:27 (4)
Pentium II 350 - 16:56 (1)

Addendum

Athlon 1200
Athlon 1300 x 2

End Addendum

So, I get roughly 17 WU/day or 119 WU/week.

I use both SetiLog and SetiWatch to oversee my herd in addition to SetiQueue.

One other thing, do you happen to know any program that I could use to run SETI as a service just like how RC5/OGR client runs even though the user is not logged in?

I heard that there was a program called App2Service. I know there is a program called SetiHide but it requires a log in before the program executes.

Yes, SETI can fairly easily be run as a service. What OS? I assume WinNT 4.0 or Win2K? I can make up a cool service installation disk for those OSes. 🙂 Also, do you want it installed as a service on the dual machines?

Hey Droolman! nice to see you around !
Sukhoi, if I'm not mistaken, Droolman! is on TA Seti.
He also leads an rc5 team (outside TA), but it seems most of their participants have gone rather inactive lately ?

hint, hint ! 😉

Sukhoi,

I have SETI running on WinNT Server, Win2K Pro and Win98 SE. As shown on the list above, I have 3 dual processors machines. If you could whip up some method that I could use to run SETI as service, I would highly appreciate it.

And Y-E-S!!! I am part of TA for SETI@Home project.

LeBlatt,

Long time no see! I haven't seen any postings from you for a long time either and it is indeed good to see you around too. I have been skulking the DC forum because I haven't found anything exciting or useful to post.

What has happened to your race page? I really missed those daily race info seeing how my RC5 scores match up with the rest of TA members. Perhaps you could revive the page.

As for my team, I still have a one single member chugging along and he is still very active cracking RC5. I know it is a very lame excuse but he still wants to be independant rather than be absorbed into the collective. So I guess, I am still out of TA d.net.

But hey, I am doing my part for TA SETI. I am crunching WUs like never before. The others better watch out, cause I'm smokin'!

Yeah, I'm home tomorrow, so I'll make up a service install for dual NT 4.0/W2K install. Win9x service is possible, but harder to do. In 9x I'd just suggest you run SETI Driver and set the # of processes to 2 on a dual machine, then have SETI Driver connect to SETIQ.

Doh, 9x isn't dual compatible, so forget that SETI Driver part. 😉

<< SetiQueue is Da Bomb!!! >>

I love it too. When people post on the forums about server outages I just smile and laugh. I've got pleny of WUs to weather through downtimes and I get all my stats without even going on the web😀

OK, just to make my life easier, what's the link for SetiQ?
I freel admit I'm too lazy to go hunt for it.. 😉

There already is a win98 service install program floating around on the net. I found it by going to ars technica and then followed a link put up by one of KWSN team members. If I find the link I will update this messege later.

The cool thing about the one I mention is that it does everything for you. If I remember right you just put in your userinfo.sah file and edit a couple of text files. Works great. it is called w9xsrv.exe or something like that. It only works on win9X machines though. It also included an updated conagent file, so you don't have to edit it so that the cli will close automatically. It is worth checking out.

Update: Found it: Kudos for the Knights Who Say N for posting this publicly for others to use. Get it here:Dasshrubber

Also, just remembered I had to put the seti client on my floppy and rename it to sti.exe. The zip file comes with good instructions if you need more info.

DasShrubber

Most handy ,thanks 🙂 ,often I've heard people asking for a service install for SETI on Win 9x but until now I hadn't known of any.I'll have to remember to remove your info from the user info file though😉.
I just noticed ,are you really in Antarctica!:Q

BTW I don't recall seeing KWSN members here often (if at all) ,welcome to our camping grounds 😉

Hey DroolMAN!, sorry for taking so long to get the service install out, I've been real busy the last few days. I'll do my best to get it uploaded this afternoon. 🙂

To DasShrubber and Sukhoi,

Thanks for the great assistance. I will be trying out both methods and see which one works best. You guys are great!

Thanks again.
