SETIQ UP - THANKS!!!

Since i can't seem to follow some of the threads concerning other peoples trouble with SETIQ - here is my question.

I have a couple PCs on my LAN - do i put the SETIQ proxy info only into SETI Driver? or does it go in SETI spy too? <-- Seti Spy doesn't seem to "control" the cli so my thought is NO. but i wanna make sure.

also... will SETIQ automatically distingush between my machines?

and the last question (for now) is: If I was to have someone else send WUs through my SETIQ - do I have to do anything special besides set my router to forward my SETIQ port?

Thanks,
CADkindaGUY

You don't need SetiSpy if you're using Seti Driver. Just Seti Driver and the command line client.

Whatever box will have the SetiQueue, you would point your SetiDriver setup to that box, port 5517. 🙂
This of course applies also to the SetiQueue box itself. You'd have SetiQueue running, and SetiDriver
and point SetiDriver at itself.

Other boxes just need SetiDriver and the command client. It will build the rest for you when you configure.

<<<You don't need SetiSpy if you're using Seti Driver. Just Seti Driver and the command line client.>>>

I know you don't "NEED" seti spy but i like it cuz it updates totals and gives some other cool things too.

do i put the SETIQ proxy info only into SETI Driver

You should point each of your LAN machines to the machine that is running SetiQueue (including the machine upon which SetiQueue resides).

For Instance

Machine#1 (SetiQueue Machine)
Local IP Address: 192.168.101
SetiDriver Settings: Host: 192.168.1.101 Port: 5517 (default) *I prefer to give each of my LAN machines a different Port Number so I can distinguish them from each other. You can assign each client in SetiQueue a unique Port. I use this feature for all of my mini-team so I can tell them apart. SetiQueue can't keep up with the dynamic characteristics of some ISPs so the unique Port Assignment is the solution. The LAN machines will show their machine name which may be satisfactory.

Machine#2
Local IP Address: 192.168.1.102
SetiDriver Settings: Host: 192.168.1.102 Port: 5517 (default) *AS I entered above.

or does it go in SETI spy too?

Nothing goes in SetiSpy. Just make sure it is in your Seti@Home Folder (or whatever you named it) and place a checkmark next to it SetiDriver.

No, you do not have to do anything.

No accusation... 🙂

I remember that it confused me at first. I tend toward minimalist.

Yes SetiQ will automatically distinguish your comps from each other as different clients working under the same user. These clients will go by that computers name (what it is seen as in network neighborhood to simplify it).

Don't know about the other questions except for what DanC has already answered. I would still use a program like setispy or setiwatch because personally I don't like many of the stats features in setiq because they seem to be innacurate (like the average time and such the basic average CPU time and WU/day seem to be fine).

DanC - no prob, I should have "😉'd" after that - I was just explaining why I use it 😀

Baldy18 and Smokeball - Why would have to/want to "dedicate ports (in SETIQ) if it separates all the machines?

Basically I want each of my machines to show up in SETIQ whether or not they are on my LAN - I have a few boxes at work that I want to run through it too.

Thanks for all the help 😀

Wouldn't you like to see: "MyGoodBuddyJoe" instead of "adsl-63-187-221.bix.bellsouth.net"? 🙂

😀 Yes 😛

oh and 1 more while i'm at it😀 - in the General Settings the email address and Name can be anything? correct? - does it have to be the same as the info in the user_info.sah? - what is it used for? <--EDITED 😀

Thanks

oh and 1 more while i'm at it - in the General Settings the email address and Name can be anything? correct? - does it have to be the same as the info in the user_info.sah? - or is it for emailing me when something is amiss?

I don't know if can be anything......I have my SETI EMAIL ADDRESS in mine.

I didn't say anything about dedicating ports. I don't think it is neccessary unless a client needs to connect to a different port to get around a firewall or something.

umm in General Settings - do I have to put an email address and Name in the spaces provided for SETIQ to work correctly? - It is really hard to know how things run with it since none of my machines are ready to plop out a finished WU🙁

It will work with the default settings so no it isn't neccessary to put in the email. Also the email feature doesn't work with this version.🙁

OK - got home from work and everything looks fine with SETIQ except it is missing 1 of my computers on the LAN.
I know this thing had to pump out atleast 1 WU since i set the proxy info on it. My concern is that the machine that is "missing" is running SETI as a service on win2k. - any thoughts?

I have rebooted the machine just incase the service needs to see the "change" in the setidriver config. - If that was the problem then i will be able to tell in an hour or so cuz it is about 85% done with a WU.

Anything I can try?

EDIT-I know it flushed one today - i just checked the SETIlog.csv - yep one for today 😱 -

Um - yep 😀 Just needed to reboot so the service would "see" the proxy 😀

Just went through! - cool now I just need to remember my password to get in this @#$% cisco 678 to set the port forwarding so I can send WUs to my setiQ from my work PCs 😀

got this from a search, but need some help...

I've got SetiQ running on one machine, serving wu's to another. The SQ server is set to OK's proxy (which I'll change if it's still overloaded). Everything is Aces except... when I check the SetiQ stats, the server isn't listed, only the client. Another thing is that the 'client' report shows 2 clients, instead of the 'server' showing 1 client (I have SetiQ set up to serve one box at this time) This makes me question whether or not I'm getting credit for the wu's done on my SQ clients. blah blah... anyway, here's my set-up:
1st box served wu's via OK's proxy
2nd box served wu's via 1st box via SetiQ via OK's proxy

The setup works, I'm just worried that I'm not getting credit for the wu's done, since the SQ status shows the 2nd box instead of the first. I assume that's because the first box isn't routed through SQ, but I don't know why the status would show 2 clients for the second box... ?

I'd like to know if I'm doing this correctly, 'cause I'm about to add 3 more boxes (older rigs, pentium class -- no biggie 😉 )

TIA

krav

You should be okay. 🙂

OK's is sorting through the results that it's getting from you (regardless of where they came from - individual machine or server), and then it would upload directly to SETI. The key is to make sure that whichever machines are actually running WUs, shows up at OK's.

BTW, OK's is completely flushed as of this morning! So check on your stats at SETI (if SETI has had chance to update them yet). 🙂

thanks, Poof, for the knowledge. I think SetiQ needs to be modified, because it lists the name of the client (relative to its local network) vs. just listing a q#... dunno if this is a security risk or not, but wanted to point it out... thanks again, poof
