I'm familiar with the concept -- I was involved with just such an occurence in days gone by.. the old-timers will remember. 😉

I can not rebutt your desire to fund your schollarly persuits. But, have you ever thought of getting a job? 😕
 
sorry soggysocks...I've already got a job & work on the side as well.
I've got three small children & my wife & I are doing what we can to make ends meat.

If you look up my results, I've been an avid SETI contributor...I do not want to do this.
But I'm the only one in the family that brings in a income & right now things are tight.
Wish I could keep my WU's as I've earned them all. (No cheating)

But Kids gotta eat & workunits, as much as cool as I think they are...aren't edible. 🙁

& hopefully another anandtech team member will get them...as I've not posted this infomation on any other
forum. (I'm a team player, understand)
 
They won't combine accounts anymore, will they? I seem to recall seeing this posted somewhere so there is no way to add these to an existing account!

Yes I'm still running seti & adding completed WU's to the account.

& if for some reason SETI won't allow me to transfer the WU's into another acct, I'll transfer ownership of the account to the winner. Either way someone is going to get 26,000+ WU's.

wiz, yeah I hope so too... I'll insure the WU's & entire "lhampel" account are controlled by the ebay winner...if that's not good enough, then second place bidder will get the option... But I sure hope whoever wins keeps them within Team Anandtech.
(i'd even be willing to offer to keep adding WU's into the lhampel acct, if the winning bidder aggrees to keep the acct within Team Anandtech.)

If you had been forth coming sooner, I wouldn't have jumped all over you. :frown:

Why don't you give us a bit more info. State and county where you live ( legal home of record), Your course of study and the Degree you are pursuing.

There are charities, grants and even companies that will foot your bills for a work commitment. Remember you are a member of Team Anandtech. Many of us are in school and/or your situation now. Many have been there before. Someone must know how you can get aid to ease your finacial burden and better support your family.

I really don't think selling a few work units is a good answer to your problem. It just seems so miniscule and finite.

Again I am sorry for getting on your case.

I am truly sorry that you are having to fight to make ends meet and I hope life steadies out for you quickly. I've been a single dad for the last 15 years and I have lived the financial roller coaster. Trust in yourself, keep striving and never stop believing that life has ups to go with most any of the downs as long as you don't give up.

Man with the amount of electricity some of us go through I'm not sure you could call it free 😉
 
I gotta go with you on that one!

I barely use up a hairdryers worth, but I know some of you have a serious investment in hardware and electricity. (Of course there are also many who sponge all that resource from their workplaces... now that's free money)

Anyway, I have no issue with selling WUs if there is a market for them.... and I see no breech in etiquite or loyalties either.... I think it is resourcefull to think of it in a pinch.

Finances will get better & the lack of a degree isn't the issue....spending more than one makes...that's the issue.

You may want to change the wording in the bottem section as you have: "... I'll give the winner the info to successfully transfer the WU's into any account."

You should just say they will be get the password and ID to the account. Someone could come back on you if they THINK they can merge these WUs with their account and then find out that it can't be done.

I just hope this doesn't give others the idea!
