I set up a new WinXP pc just to process Seti@home. Every time I download work units I have to log back on to the Seti server after each unit is downloaded. So to download 25 work units I have to login 25 times. What setting is doing this to me?

We need more details.

Which version of SETI are you running? GUI or Command line? SETI Classic or BOINC?

When you say logon, can you describe exactly what it is asking for? And what input do you provide?

I am running gui version 1.6.3.6 -- Seti Classic

It asks me if I want to (1) open and new account, or (2) login to an existing account. I select 2 then it asks me for the email address of the existing account.

I input the reigistered email address then seti goes thru the routine of connecting to the server, then downloads a wu, then stops and waits for me to select 1 or 2, then the email address again.

Just before disconnecting from the server is gives a message basically saying that it is disconnecting due to client request. Sorry but I've not been able to screen capture the message yet on that pc since there's nothing on it but WinXP and Seti.

Oh, when I first set up this 'seti pc' it didn't do this. That is, it just downloaded how many ever work units I had asked it for without any attention/input from me. I didn't do anything in seti to cause the change but may have changed something in WinXP that caused it since I was downloading/installing upgrades and cleaning up some other security issues.

Check the file permissions on the SETI folder and files. Sounds like the SETI client cannot save the setup info. Or there is a communications problem with the SETI server. You might try pointing it to one of the team's SETIQ servers.

Also, the 3.03 CLI version will give you a significant decrease in the amount of time it takes to complete a work unit. :)

You say you updated security on Win XP ....if you mean Service pack 2 ,
Check the properties of your internet connection/advanced tab/windows firewall/settings/
exceptions................................make sure your berkley link is listed and allowed.

Hope it helps :)

Very well, your system is good and with hyper-threating enabled, you can contribute 18+ WU to the TeAm per day! :D

New problem. With the new install I didn't have Seti Watch, so I moved setiwatch.exe to my newly installed seti folder but my WU history didn't move with it. Which file or files do I need to drag along to recover my history?

Amdxborg is always the one to have all the help files linked from somewhere to here and there ...

Good Luck on crunching ...

SETIWatch reads the file called "SETILog.csv" so that's the one you want to move to your new folder. Just be kinda careful when joining the info from 2 log files as they can sometimes get a little goofy. Best to make a copy of them first, just in case.
