Seti won't save config? Fixxed- Thanks to Confused it was simple!!

My new computer is built and Seti was transferred to the new from the old (I just put it on CD and copied to my new cmputer). I had to change my IP adress in SetiDriver to direct WU's to and from SetiQ. Problem is when I change the address, on the next boot it changes back to my old IP address and won't transmit? I changed the IP address on my other network computer and it kept. I know this has something to do with "networking", which I'm not very good at!! The computers cannot "see" each other in the network neighborhood either. SetiQ is on the computer with the problem. I can ping both computers in DOS. Why will the config not save on the new one. I'd like to get this hammered out and see my WU times @ 167 FSB (just warming up!!).
 
If you are using SETIDRIVER, be sure to click on the SAVE CONFIG button, as it doesn't automatically save the settings. Then exit and restart, and the settings should be there.
 
I'm hitting Save Config, but it's not saving on the next restart. What file/folder can I manually edit this? Might I need to reset my router? My old NIC still shows there even though it doesn't exist.
 
Do you have SETIDRIVER in more than one location on the hard drive? Make sure that the startup shortcut is pointing to the correct drive/folder.

Save the config in SETIDRIVER, exit, then manually start it up from that folder and see if the config was saved. If not, download SETIDRIVER again and see if that fixes it.
 
If you copied files straight onto CD and back, without zipping or anything, you'll need to highlight all the files and remove the Read Only attribute, then you should be able to save the config.

Confused- I didn't think of that, but it is most likely cause.

Ray- I only have 1 SetiDriver installed.
 
I thought each NEW computer had to run its first WU through to Berkeley ... am I wrong?
 
Confused- SetiDriver was read only. Called home and had the wife fix it. She said some others were read only also. Do I need to make them all unchecked? She thinks I'm nuts searching for aliens!!
 
If you just copied the folders to the new PC, it's possible that the new one is missing some registry entries. Copy the SETI@Home and other SETI folders to a temp directory, and install the programs like you normally would, then copy the original folders back. That way, the data is kept intact, and the registry and any other settings files outside of the SETI folders are updated.

DOH! I totally missed the copied to CD part. Yep, that would set them to read-only. Good catch, Confused. 😀

Yeah, you're right there. Using SetiDriver and the CLI, no registry settings are made, it's only with the GUI that it writes something to the registry, and if you're using some sort of service install...but then that's just for starting/scheduling, the CLI/SD itself doesn't do registry 😉

Hopefully it was something as simple as changing it to be not read-only - if not, it might be easiest to just delete the whole directory and start over again by redownloading from the internet, but that is a final final resort 🙂

All is fine now. Wish I would have noticed I installed from a CD that was a few days old- 2 duplicate results. I had the most recent copy of my Seti stuff on my other network computer, but had a little bit of an issue getting the network talking (wrong workgroup setting)!! I'm a little surprised my times haven't picked up a little more- 3.2 hrs for both the finished WU's. I'll get a better gauge on this in a few days.

Can't imagine this setup isn't smoking my last one so far-

Previous rig: XP1700+ running @ 1470 (default) w/ PC2100

Current rig: XP1600+ running @ 1596mhz (9.5*168) w/ PC3200!!



Maybe I just completed a couple of WU's that would have taken my other rig 4 hrs.??
