SETI - what should i replace my 8K7A with?

i'm building a new rig for work (1.53ghz xp running seti 24/7) and i want to but my 8K7A into that, while replacing mine with a better mobo/chipset. what should i get? i'm leaning towards the 8KHA+ at the moment, but would like something that overclocks better and has a better positioned power connector.

i'm also swapping my crucial 256mb pc2100 stick with a corsair 512mb pc2700 stick. 😀

Hmm...

I use a Gigabyte Ga-7VTXH mobo as my KT266A mobo of choice 🙂

It overclocks very well (depending on CPU sometimes) and i THINK the power connector is in a decent place.

Its a good board anyway, and about 20% cheaper than Abit, Asus etc here in the UK (dont know if that applies in the US)

You might want to look at some of the new boards with the KT333. Lots of new features in that chipset. The boards shouldn't cost much if any more than KT266A mobos.

cost isn't the issue. the company would cover it. 😉

which one would you recommend - epox 8K3A, gigabyte GA-7VRX, or the MSi KT3 Ultra?

For overclocking I would probably go with the Epox. I would consider the A7V333 from Asus. From what I read they make the best use of the new thermal diode technology.

I would get the a7v333 from asus as well. For overclocking MSI isn't always the best, but I've always been happy with the quality of the MSI boards I've had.

I would go with a Tyan Tiger Dual AMD. Check out my earlier post as newegg is selling for $129 w/shippin' 😀

can't:

1) it doesn't overclock
2) my pal8045 doesnt' fit on it
3) my 1.0ghz MP @ 1.49ghz w/ 175mhz fsb would be useless
