SETI vs. Folding

Why did you choose SETI or Folding? Which is more worthwile?

I wouldn't say one is more worthwhile than the other. It's more a matter of what you are interested in and want todo with your machines. After all they're your machines and you should read up on the different projects and decide which ones suits you the most

Yep, Kind of like which is better for you, apples or oranges. 😕

They both are important in their own way. In fact there are several DC projects that are intriguing, and all with a different aim.

PS: I'm a seti kind of guy right now.

The SETI TeAm is a great team. It is a great community and they have a lot of fun.

But if you read the book by the respected astronomer scientist Carl Sagan about life in the universe you would have your answer. He thought there was, is or will be other intelligent life. At some time. That's the problem, time. And distance. And the resources it would take an alien civilization to get a signal to us.

I fold, at least there IS a very slim chance of success in the next 100 million years 🙂

I'm currently running both. Projects for OpenBSD on sparc/sparc64 are very rare, but seti has them.
I'm running 2 instances of F@H on my dual p3 because it works. Although, I am probably switching one of the CPUs to lifemapper in the future (next day or two).

They're all "worthwhile." 🙂

I also try to run an ecryption cracking program or two. md5crk is working quite well. Thinking about writing a FAQ. 😛 (not to push another project on anyone)

I run Folding@Home because it's pretty unobtrusive and the project has very worthwhile goals IMO.

I'll probably do F@H once SETI 1 ends.

I do both myself for my contribution to the RA.
