SETI times increase....

I went from 6hr 7 min. to 5hr 51min. per WU by swapping out my USB DSL modem to an external Ethernet modem.

This makes me wonder how many minutes we are wasting by having other USB devices hooked up to our PC's...

🙂

😕
that's kinda strange... my guess is that you use your connection alot, and that's the only reason why.
something like a USB mouse wouldn't cause a 20 mins difference in WU times 🙂

You might see a similar situtaion with USB vs Ethernet cable modem. I'm not sure about that but I do know relibility will go up.

Interesting. Probably the device operates more like a peripheral when on USB and more like an independent device when it's on ethernet.

Ethernet cards have their own processors for handling IO while the USB device relies on the processor.

I use a USB mouse & keyboard - do you think it might make a diff?
I could pull the usb plug tomorrow morning, we are going to visit friends for the weekend.
Then when I get back it should have processed 16 - 20 WU's and I would be able to see if there is a difference.
(if my machine keeps running all that time anyway)

Interesting ,that never would of occured to me!

Funny thing is when I went from 56k h/ware PCI modem to Cable modem via USB I noticed no difference in WU times
