SETI TeAm Proxy Problems! - Let's fix it!!

when you talk of proxy bandwidth how many megs of information transfer occures? see example below.

What I am asking is I have cable service with roadrunner/timewarner and moving 60megs or 110 megs for a demo game does not worry me. How much information-transfer a month would I incure if I did 1/12 of the work load as a seti-proxy.

Also is there a seti-proxy version for windows XP.

Next what happens if my machince crashes? I can put the program and whatever on a raid but not on the boot section/system. How much is written to the Win XP system and such (registry) or can all of the program go to a raid non boot drive. I have a new Tyan Tiger n-4m version but it wont recognise promise raid cards for boot until a new bios comes out and it has been 2 months and nothing... so who knows when.

and whatever else I havent thought of..........

Side question: What if OK temp. pointed his queue at one of the other TeAm ones, dumped say 500 w/u's...dumped 500 on the next...etc. Since most of the users don't have an established queue would it cause hell or would it be a quick way for him to clear the plate?

I just now changed to your proxy SoulAssassin, I hope that's ok with you. I noticed the last few times I tried to transmit on OK's proxy, they were getting stuck and so I shut off Seti and had to restart it.
After I switched, they seem to be going just fine now.

Cool, I added some w/u's into your queue. Let me know if you need anything or run into any issues.

Just thought I'd pipe in to explain a misconception about the Inter-WU delay feature... 😉

The delay ONLY kicks in if the queue has trouble for some reason. For instance, SETI Queue contacts Berkeley, a miracle happens, and it downloads a WU on the first try. It will IMMEDIATELY begin downloading another unit and KEEP doing so until it fills all its queues. However, if a WU times out (which happens more often that a WU gets through), SETI Queue will back off and wait for the length of time specified by Inter-WU delay. Then, it tries again. So, the bottleneck really isn't OrangeKid's bandwidth. It's Berkeley's. As OrangeKid said earlier when the pipes are wide open, he is able to move over 6500 WUs a day (and I'd guess probably significantly more than that if Berkeley had unlimited bandwidth on their end).

That being said, the multiple Q's will help simply because that makes it more attempted connections trying for the 1500 connections that Berkeley has available at any one moment, so it is more likely ONE of the queues will connect.

I understood him to say that he made 6500 connections when things were working properly at Berkley. Those connections include both incoming and outgoing data transfers with Berkley. But, with a 1 minute gap between WUs it would take 108 hours of just gap wait time just to process 6,500 WUs. So, he was moving a much smaller number than that.

I still think something is up with OK's connection. Is his ISP limiting him? He is having a very difficult time getting any WUs, while the other public queues have nearly 15,000 on hand. Why are they getting them and not OK? Check this thread for verification.

Ehm, just to make atleast one point clear about SetiQueue and "Inter-WU download gap".
Of course, if you can't download anything the settings have little meaning... 🙂

1; "Inter-WU download gap" is the time from START a wu-download, to START next wu-download. Example, as default this is 1 minute. If a wu takes 15 seconds to download, there will be a pause of 45 seconds before next wu is downloaded. If you're using 61 seconds to download, there is no pause.
2; If "Look for sweet WUs" is enabled and one high angle-range wu is downloaded, there is no pause before next wu-download.
3; "Inter-WU VLAR gap" is used if VLAR downloaded. Like #1, this is from START download to START next download.
4; Then SetiQueue goes online and a Queue has less than "Min Queue Depth", ALL OF THESE SETTINGS IS OVERLOOKED until the queue has "Min Queue Depth". In other words, NO PAUSE between wu-downloads.
5; If setiqueue hits a "Override for empty queues", also the "Processing Time"-settings is overlooked, and setiqueue goes online till all queues reaches "Min Queue Depth". Like #4, no pause between wu-downloads.

To tie this to Orange Kids proxy, this gives with his "normal" settings of 23 hour/day online, min. queue 3 days, max 7 days, and 1 minute inter-wu gap.
If we're supposing 1000 wu/day, this gives with enough bandwidth this scenario:
After 3 hours 3000 wu is downloaded, and upto 3000 results uploaded if normal process priority. All queues have now 3 days queued.
Will now switch to downloading 1 wu/minute. This gives 1380 wu/day.
After 11 days all queues are full. :Q

Theoretical upper limits:
Usable cache-throughput: 7200 wu/day
Max cache fillrate: 24000 wu/day.

Now, the 11 days is atleast a problem. How long is it since last time the queue was full...

Source for info:
#1: tested myself, on a slow connection.
#2-5; RTFM. 🙂
#4 was tested to make sure it worked as stated.

I still have only 2 people and 3 computers the other 15 are just open queues for 600 queues

I need more people I'm idle 99% of the time now.

Feel free to join. If you need wu I have hundreds I can transfer to you.
