Seti sucks a fat one, chicks dig RC5

What? Am I joking? That's for you to decide.

Do I think seti is pointless...well, without philosophical reasoning it serves no real purpose, other than being in it just for the race. But if for the race, don't you care that TeAm is losing on the rc5 battle front? 🙂

Ahh, I had to have the fire dept over to hose down the women when they heard I did rc5...

Don't forget the SETI Cavalry. 😉 They are intrepid SETI explorers who intercepted a faint distress signal from a civilization of RC5-64 beings. It seems these beings were threatened by a dominant group of aliens called the DPC. The SETI Cavalry bravely entered the RC5-64 system and engaged in battle against DPC in support of the RC5-64 beings, despite what it cost them in their own home system of SETI. In return, some of the RC5-64 beings pledged to support the SETI beings when the battle with the DPC was finally won or lost.

To this day, some of the survivors of the failed RC5-64 resistance against the dreaded DPC still honor their vow and help the courageous SETI beings, while other RC5-64 beings carry on a brave underground resistance movement against the tyrany of the DPC. 😀

The End 😀

For your information, we are losing on the ECCp battlefront, we are losing position on the Seti battlefront so if you want some help try recruiting outside the DC forum. I am not going to post for the umpteenth million time the links that show Seti is doing more research than searching for Aliens. I will however let you know that it won the 2002 Computerworld awards which go to the 11 most innovative uses of technology each year. It is a very prestigious award and I doubt they would have given it to a project that only means a race. :|

Hi Crazee! Don't take it so hard, everyone is just playing! All the projects are important and are paving the way for even better things to come. Some of the people in this thread have been doing rc5 for a long time and are just trying to get a little excitement going again for the project! Good to see you again my friend. Keep in touch! I for one have temporarily swung back to rc5 to help wrap this up and see if we can't hold on to that second place until the end...

Bot,

There are better ways to recruit than to bad mouth another project. I have been helping the ECCp TeAm out because they asked for help without bad mouthing another project. I can't speak for others, however if a project wants my help it's best not to knock my choices.

What Crazee just said...

I'd also like to add that considering the purpose behind rc5, I don't think ThisIsMatt has any room to question the worth of the SETI project. He11, many people and participants think the key was lost long ago...

What happens then? Does the project continue and start rechecking or is it considered a failure?

Did you totally miss what SETI stands for? ,of course it servers a purpose!
Also read my sig,3rd line down😛

Btw with your dubious attitude you won't gain any friends to your cause ,not slagging off other projects will go a long way

Man, some of you guys need to relax a bit...no hard feelings, alright? 😛

Assimilator1 - exactly, philosophical reasoning as I said. Personally, I'd rather not give my cpu time to a project with no end in sight and with no real visible solution. True, the rc5 key may have been lost, but at least we'll know that when the key space is exhausted.

I am not going to post for the umpteenth million time the links that show Seti is doing more research than searching for Aliens.
Why not? Perhaps a link to a post where you link to some other good seti is doing? I didn't notice anything else in that case study other than what I already knew seti to be, but maybe I went over it too fast...

My intentions weren't to piss everyone off, I should've posted in OT where people are less set in their ways of DC (if they even have ways) 😉

I think it is funny to see some of the seti people getting defensive. Everytime I got mad at someone bad mouthing rc5 in a thread I was told I was being sensitive and they were just playing, but turn-about here definantly does not seem to be fair play.

If RC5 was being called 'worthless' too I would also ask them not to slag that project off either ,even if it isn't a project I run

ThisIsMatt
No hard feelings either,I just don't like it when a DC project is called worthless ,especially my baby..... I mean SETI 😉😱
Avoid calling any DC project worthless & you shouldn't upset anyone😉
Btw I'm in it for the long run ,I'd be very suprised if anything was found within 10yrs ,I'm not bothered by its lack of deadline ,it WILL happen 1 day!🙂

Robor
I understand they would keep going until the key was found, this would mean that keys that haven't been returned as checked would get re crunched

I really get tired of people coming in saying Seti has accomplished nothing when it is very obvious they have done NO reading on the project! Please before you come in and make a post judging any project, please do some research. If you had checked it out you would have found these links:

Seti@Home and Pulsar Research
Seti@Home and Black Hole Research
Seti@home and hydrogen distribution in the galaxy

It might help if you understood the project better. The project is not trying to find ET directly through our analysis of the Work Units. They are trying to find the most likely candidates for the telescope in Arecibo to examine for longer periods of time to see if there are Alien signals or not.

Persistency Checking of Gaussians
Taking stock of most promising signals
Explanation of Signal Candidates
Best Signal Candidates Thus Far
The signal candidate scoring system
Sorting Gaussians

So please read through this information before coming in and saying that Seti is worthless! :|

Also, please someone point to a thread in the last 8 months that shows someone from Seti cracking on RC5?

This is pointless.

Even if you didnt mean anything by it Matt, something has come of it. We choose to do our projects, and you choose to do yours. Very simple.

RC5 is almost done. However, SETI will be around for a long time. (Funding permitted) Seeing they're already underway to SETI II, I would rather work SETI than pound on some encryption method that probably won't last very long the way CPU speeds are increasing.

Consolidated sentence - RC5 is boring. 🙁 In the first years it was fun watching those wu's crack and the stats build up, but good grief! After years and years of "sorry the stats are down" and other problems. Frankly, I lost interest. (Won't go into the details about Dave, but that's just another reason why I left).

Maybe the next run of CSC or something that only takes a few days to run, but I think I'm in for SETI. If RC5 is a "hot chick" then your probably going to be dumped for another dude. I would rather have a "good looking chick" that will be around for a while, instead of a one night stand. 😉

IMHO, the very best thing about RC5/OGR is that the client is SMP compliant! 🙂 That was such a bonus when I was running RC5 on the 6x6 ALR that I had way back when.. 1 client running across 6 processors... not 6 seperate sub-directories each with it's own client tied to one of the 6 processors.. :disgust:

That SMP compliance is in my book the single most redeeming feature of the RC5 client. To be honest, I don't even really care if they do find the key or not, I'd just like 'em to contact the other DC projects and re-write their clients to handle multiple processors natively. 😀

When did anyone crack on rc5? 😕 The only bad thing I've ever said about the project is I didn't like that they left Dave to twist in the wind. :disgust: :|
