SETI Spy Final Edition BETA

I have decided to upgrade SETI Spy once more to create a "Final Edition". The main reason is to fix some problems that cause the current version of SETI Spy to crash under Windows XP, usually on startup.

I have a beta version ready that you can download here. If you are interested, please check it out, especially its stability under Windows XP if you had problems with the previous version.

In addition to (hopefully) improving WinXP compatibility, I made various other small bug fixes and enhancements that you can find listed here.

The beta also supports Windows XP themes, so please verify that it looks and acts OK on XP. I can't guarantee anything, since I run Win2k and had very little opportunity to test on XP. All feedback, either in this thread or by email, will be very welcome.

Enjoy!

I will definitely be trying it out! I discovered SETI Spy shortly before changing from WindowsME to Windows XP Professional, so I did not get to use it very long. Thanks a lot! 🙂

hi roelof! welcome to anandtech!

i'd like to thank you for all the hard work you've done with this project, i don't know where i'd be without setispy!

edit: /me sees that roelof has been around here longer than me :Q way to nef!

Awesome!!! SetiSpy is my favorite Seti utility. Everything seems good under XP Pro, even with visual themes activated.

Great work!

I downloaded it, placed it in my Seti folder, clicked it and it crashed. 🙂 Restarted it and it is running OK. Oh well...

I still love it though! 😀

Running WinXP, I suppose? Does activating or deactivating visual themes or setting the compatability mode make any difference?

I experienced a startup crash on XP using 3.0.8 also. So, if I want to delay the launch for 10 seconds, the target box for SetiSpy shortcut should be:

"C:\Program Files\SETI@home\SETI@home CLI Client\SetiSpy308.exe" -wait 10

??

I do not restart my computers a lot, but it seems delaying 10 seconds will do the trick.

I am just curious about what exactly was the problem with XP which causes the crash on SETISpy?

Yup, XP. I don't retart much either, and used the themes/compatibility trick before. It really doesn't crash very often, haven't had another one since my first post.

Great!

There was a bug deep down in the one of the Windows components I used. :frown: It only came to the surface in Windows XP.
