SETI slow time and anomalies

I recently came back on line with the Team. I'd originally joined SETI in 1999 and ran a P200 for a while. My times were way below everyone else's with similar rigs: averaging 94 hours for one work unit. Also I had a lot of unexplained problems with other programs that disappeared when I discontinued SETI, so I stopped for quite a while.

Now I have a new rig, T-Bird 1200 OCd to 1343, 768mb SDRAM, Win2K. Now my times are a lot better - about 11 hours per WU, but I notice that when I checked some sites that others with similar rigs are running about 7 hrs per WU. I'm also experiencing random problems with WordPerfect programs, from Quattro Pro 8 to WordPerfect Office 2002, mostly in spreadsheets and very slow video redraws (Radeon 64DDR w/vivo). I'm running SETI in background, not just screensaver.

Am I off base here or does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I know I won't be the only one to say this, but it sounds like you're running the GUI version of Seti rather than the CLI version. The CLI version is up to 50% faster than the GUI. With that rig you have, you should be cranking out WUs in about 4-5 hrs.

I know there have been postings in the forum about issues with Seti and various Corel products. I can't remember the exact details because I have never experienced the problems myself. I'm sure someone else will chime in with some more details.

Welcome back to the team!!

You're right! I am using the GUI. I will try the CLI route and see how that affects times. Still would love to hear from anyone about Corel incompatibilities.

Thanks

Crazee.... thanks for the thread link, however it appears I can't access it without being a paid subscriber. Is there a free thread that you are aware of that I can follow?

Thanks,
Niege

Try here for that thread. [EDIT] I got beat to it but it never husts to have too much help (ok sometimes it does).

Also look here for info on setting up the CLI client. It should really cut those times down to average of somewhere around 5-5.5 hours depending on how you use your computer.

If you still have problems with Corel and the CLI, run a blanked version of the GUI. It should atleast get you some output, without having any Corel problems.

Thanks, guys. I'm trying a CLI session now and will see what happens. If that doesn't work, I'll try a blanked GUI, and if that.... I'll yell!
