SETI running slooooooooooooooooooooooow, HELP!

Hi all, I used to complete a packet every 10 hours or so with a P3@933 now, with a P4@1.5Ghz I'm doing one in like 30+ hours????? I'm running Win2k Pro Spk2 if that helps and for some reason when i'm at my computer it runs blazing, but when i'm away it dies, and NO I DO NOT HAVE ANY POWERSAVING OPTIONS TURNED ON, so what gives?? any advice sure appreciated.

Are you running the GUI screensaver version? 😉 It's really slow.. Run SETI Driver and the CLI client. 🙂 There are links in the help thread in my sig.

BTW, if you aren't on Team AnandTech, join us! 🙂

That's just it I turned OFF the screensaver and have it running 100% in the background all the time, thing is since i've been on for about an hour doing things i've completed over 13%, I don't understand what gives, I think when win2k doesn't sense me using the comp it kills SETI processes, it has to, otherwise there's no explanation for why it's running SOOOOOO SLOW, and I would be happy to join the anandtech team, hope my current stats can add to urs cause i've run about 2700 hours and over 260 packets in a few months last year

Yep, the stats move over. Welcome! 😀

I would uninstall the GUI and install SETI Driver and CLI. It's still faster than a blanked GUI. 🙂

Ok, I killed off the GUI and got the Driver and client, i'm running the client right now (it's minimized as a window in my toolbar) but was wondering if I could hide it an just let the driver control it, any info would be great, I'm kinda at a loss as to how to get an update on Driver too, doesn't seem to be working, thanks.

In Seti Driver, all you have to do is check the box "Hide Processing" and it'll hide the client from your taskbar. Then, minimize Seti Driver, and it'll remove itself from the taskbar and run as an icon in the sys tray.

Also, check the box labeled "Use Seti Driver" at the bottom to keep track of the current work unit progress.

HAHA, i'm and idiot, I had it checked and then started the client manually, LOL!!! that's funny, wonder if it was trying to run 2 wus, oh well, i'm all set now, thanks all, oh and how do i join the AnandTech team so my stats are added?

Glad you've decided to join the TeAm! 😀

Here's the complete roster of TeAm AnandTech. Click "Join" at the top of the page to become a member! Despite what the page says, your completed work units will be transferred once you join.

🙂

Heh, all signed up 🙂 thanks guys, I think I found the problem, when I had my hardware monitor running it seems to absoloutley KILL SETI performance unless i'm using the machine, weird eh? Cause once I turned it on it slowed down my processes by over 50 min when I ran it for 10 min, so I've disabled it and now it's running like the wind, hope everyone knows this.
