SETI-Q Question (Updated - SETI Driver is causing it)

Anyone notice SETI Q generates network traffic continuous? It isn't alot, but it never stops. Why?

Ah ha! I found it's actually SETI Driver doing it.

How about you all? Does yours?

I shutdown my monitoring programs (FREEping and SetiPRO) and watched my 8-port Linksys switch that is daisy-chained with other switches to include 14 systems. There was little or no traffic for the few minutes I watched it. There will always be some low-level network traffic, but the only time SETI should be talking is when it is sending results and/or getting WUs.

I have 3 machines running seti driver with setiQ on one of them. I don't have any traffic when they're not transmitting. seti driver ver. 1.6.3.3, two running ver 1.6.3.5.

One thing I noticed, it doesn't happen all the time like I thought. (Until I started really paying attention to it) However, when I know I have nothing else running but SETI Driver, I'll shut it down and network traffic will cease. In one week I had only a RC5 proxy, SETIQ and SETI Driver going and it listed over 8Gig worth of data through the NIC. That's a little bit above normal that what I would think SETI Driver should transmit.

I'll leave just the RC5 Proxy, SETIQ and a command line SETI running this weekend and see what changes.

I forgot who has been recommending it but I've been running SetiHide on one of my rigs for several weeks now and it is really smooth.

I wouldn't recommend one over the other but if you are having some issues with SetiDriver you could:

1. Delete it completely and start over with a new install of SetiDriver
2. Delete it completely and start over with a new install using SetiHide

The two programs do the same primary thing, cache WUs, but SetiHide does allow you to run it on a computer without any icon showing up in the startup tray (hence its name). I'm looking forward to the next version which is supposed to have the additional feature of installing it as a service for Win2000/XP.

I don't have a clue about your current problem but just wanted to give you a couple of alternative ideas.
