SETI did not send out the completed work unit from my pc. My pc is netwoked to another computer of mine as server. I am not using any proxy or firewall, i am using NAT for my home networking.

The strange thing is i can receive the first work unit but after it is completed it cannot be sent out.

can anyone help??

Are you getting one of those "gethostbyname" errors? If so, make sure your client and server machines have a valid DNS server listed in the networking properties...

If it isn't the above, what error are you getting? Some people have reported intermittant problems trying to upload WUs.

Graphical User Interface, or Command Line Interface...do you see the rainbow (not really) colored progress bars, or do you just type "setiathome-3.0.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe" at the dos prompt? (or run the SETI driver, etc)...

it might have been a temporary outage of some sort. if it can get it, network wise, it should be able to send it.

office boy?

yup
i saw the progression bar and everything that the software has.
it is just the networking problem i think
i couldn't figure it out and i cannot run SETI in my server cause it is too slow
that is why it is my server

GUI = screensaver version of SETI.
I've been having intermittent problems sending off WU results with the SETI server too ,to day was OK for me though.Otherwise sometimes WU results get rejected ,'seti says duplicate result' ,even when it isn't.Fortunatly SETIQ saves these rejected WU's so I can resubmit them latter.
If your not using some sort of WU storing program you should seriously consider 1.Check out my sig for more info :)
Ref your server ,how much RAM has it got? & what cpu does it have?

BTW are you in a SETI team?

i am not running seti as screen saver cause i hate screen saver.
i run it all the time.
for my server it is just k62 with 96mb ram but it has a damn damn bigfoot hard drive that made it terribily slow ;(
so i dun think it can run SETI

i dunno if i am a member or not.
i am just testing my system stability by running SETI
but i would like to join.

Problem solved!

This ends up being the wrong MTU setting for my PPPoE driver for my ADSL connection. The default was 1492. I needed to use 1460 and
finally seti is uploading results for the first time.
www.dslreports.com is down right now, or I would give you the exact URL. Ah! here it is for more reading...

Hello Adrian

I'm running the 2.03 client on several machines and havea simular problem. his has croped up more hit than miss.

I have tried quite a few things:

1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Then I have a funky workunit that was supposed to go up.
2. Blowing up the the sah file that contained the user information, then reseting the preferences.
3. Changing TCP/ip setttings to make sure that TCP/icp was working. 4. Re-installed Win98 over the top of itself to force and update registry settings.

All of these would sometimes go to get a new packet. This also started happening on another machine on my network. I recieved now quiees from the bug report so I'm looking here also.

As the 2.04 client is available and will not blow up the result will un-installing and try the 2.04

The speed of the HDD has very little impact on SETI speeds ,SETI runs within the RAM & merely updates a file every few mins,to record %WU done.

I had a PII 233 @ 280 MHz (2.5x112) running SETI CLi v2.4 ,this system started off with a 450Mb HDD & then latter went to a 20 Gb HDD ,the WU times stayed at around 10.5 hrs/WU.

A K6-2 with 96 Mb RAM should run SETI just fine ,assuming your server apps don't chew up huge amounts of memory.Don't expect particularly fast WU times with a K6-2 though ,the weak FPU & relativley slow L2 cache hold things back somewhat.Depending on the clock speed,L2 cache size & SETI version you could get WU times of between 12-22hrs.Go for it! :).

I look forward to you joining us :)
