The points don't count for another 13 hours from now when the race starts. So turn off the network communications, and don't turn it back on until after the race starts. But with so few work units, you may want to allow another project to get some tasks too, so you're not sitting idle.

I've seen some posts on the race page, saying they were out of workunits, but the server status page says they have 340,000 to send out. Weird that no one is getting them.

The first hour(s) are not a good indicator other than to show who was caching wu's. The team to watch will most likely be the GPU Users Group. They won last year by a substantial margin.

As far as the Groups are concerned, my Pisces group came in dead last. At least we can't do any worse.

TA has 13 now as we did last year. It would be nice to exceed last years output. We will know more as the event goes on................

Good luck to all. 🙂
and keep 'em cool.

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

Good gawd. 140 active computers, and all very modern, most with higher end vid cards. D:

Well, ....that's makes me feel a little better about my particular collection/obsession. Also makes me feel wee and tiny. :hmm:

SIXTY-FOUR Core(TM) i7-5960X's. The rest AMD FX-8350's and 8320's, with mostly Nvidia 970GTX's and 660GTX's.

Very rough guess of $180,000 to $220,000 in equipment, and $4200 per month for electricity. All on a single dial-up modem. (just kidding about the modem)

.

Is it going to do me any good to install the lunatics if I crunch mainly on CPU?

Put it on the old ProLiant but so far I don't see much of a difference.

Advice, please...

It can't hurt. With all your computers it could add up. Just don't expect a huge uptick. I always use Lunatics FWIW............. free advice = $0 😉

Tony: if you noodle around you will find all kinds of situations. My favorite is one who says he has 27 computers at home.....................

Last year one guy entered with a huge data center. He out produced everyone else combined. Kind of affected the outcome............
I looked before he hid his computers and there were pages and pages. I did not even try to count them.

This year looks to be more normal.

But there is still lots of time...........:sneaky:

All right.

Since it doesn't seem that urgent, I'll install it starting Monday on the PCs for what it's worth.

One more thing - Those mediocre GPUs I have (Quadro 290s mostly) - do you think I should involve those as well, instead of the CPUs? CPUs are mainly Core 2 DUOs.

Give it a try. My AMD 280X's are crunching in 7-9 minutes, but the HD4850's are crunching in 3-4 hours. Not the same work units though. Haven't checked if the points are worth the cost in extra electricity yet.***and now I'm back***

Yep, worth the effort. It was my Quadro FX1800 taking that long, the 4850's were about an hour. So, give 'em a try at least.

OK, I'll slap lunatics on those PCs come Monday then.
Can't hurt from what I understand...

Thanks for the advice!

Pokey, would you mind pulling over for a minute, my bumper flew off when you zipped past me back there, and it's still caught in the vacuum your score is creating. 😛

Well, one of my goals is now complete. I've been running some computers I don't really want to run in hopes the WinTen upgrade will come through. Good news is that they've all now upgraded. Bad news is that AMD refuses to make a Win10 driver for the HD4800 and older series. So I've lost the HD4850's as far as GPU computing, but basic 2D works off the generic Microsoft VGA driver of course.

2nd goal, finally get my pathetic total for SETI up to 500,000. That should show soon.

3rd goal, hit one million. Hmm, not sure this one will happen. Even with Lunatics, things seem awfully slow running SETI, on all machines, and completed tasks overnight haven't shown up yet on my account. :colbert:

My most recent valid task is dated 15 Aug 2015, 19:58:15 UTC, only ~6hours into the race.

Hoping that my points are delayed and will eventually show up makes me feel a bit better about having the paint scorched off my machines as Pokey's rocket powered GPU fleet slingshot past me. 😛

Gotta be Virtual Machines. Nobody in their right mind would dish out that kind of cash for DC.

Congrats to Pokey for staying in the top 30 (26th currently). Go Pokey Go!!

The TeAm is holding steady thus far at #11.
