SETI.Germany invites all BOINC teams to the SETI@Home Wow!-Event 2013. It takes place from Thu 15th August, 16.00 UTC, until Thu 29th August 2013, 16.00 UTC.
We cordially ask all team leaders to forward the invitation to their team. Information about the Wow! Race 2013, an exciting race concept and a registration form can be found here:
http://www.seti-germany.de/Wow/anmeldung.php?&lang=en
SETI.Germany wishes you and your team members much fun with the Wow! Event 2013.

Many Greatings: Terminator

Please use your own Seti-name and Seti-ID-number for sign up.
Don't sign up in my name --- that would be cheating (I would get the credits in this race ...).

I haven't crunched SETI on my main rig in ages!
I'm interested, but can't we crunch under the TA banner?

If I remember correctly you enter your astrological sign and that is your team for this race. For instance, I am a Pisces so I will be on that team and all the other Pisces. I guess the idea is to shuffle the deck so to speak and form teams in a different way.

I thought the last race was very interesting and a good bit of fun.

Update
OK: joined...... Pisces.

And for those who don't know, Dumping is allowed 😀, tho with D/L restrictions
it might not matter this year. In last years race i downloaded about 14 days of w/u's
2weeks before the race on 3 machines, stopped u/l-d/l , and at the start of the
race, opened the floodgates.....

Seems like it is logging current WUs. Also, what do you guys use for you SETI preferences? I have all WU options elected. Not sure if only selecting astropulse is best? Also what is the opinion on only using 7 of 8 cores and leading one unused for the GPU? Right now I've got all eight cores switched from Asteroids@home back to SETI along with my GTX 580 going dedicated to SETI.

Peter, what are you and other people using in the way of GPUs? I am trying 2 Nvidia 660 Ti each with 3 wu at the same time and my average are like under 40 points average and total points are under 400. I'm using Lunatics app_info.xml and I've put in flops in scientific notation and estimated completion times are still high. My wu times vary depending on the type of wu but some are completed in 33 minutes.
Thanks for your help and input,
Bruce

Installed Lunatics and now have some Workunits that have 84 hours to complete lol. It selected AVX on CPU instead of using SSE3, and I chose the GTX 400/500 series under GPU. Looks like it has my CPU doing Astropulse_v6 6.01. Trying to get everything situated before the race to help team. How do you load up on Workunits ahead of time? I've noticed SETI will complete the GPU workunit quickly, and then sit there with nothing to do for a while before getting another GPU workunit.

Go to, Tools > Computing preferences > network usage > minimum work buffer (set it at 7) > maximum additional work buffer (set it at 3)

Also try restarting Boinc the manager may decrease work times for the GPU times.

With BOINC Manager in Advanced view mode click Tools ... then Computing Prefrences... then network usage tab ... then change "Minimum work buffer" days to a bigger number. You can also change the "Max additional work buffer" to a bigger number of days. You have to estimate how many WUs your computer can finish before the Deadline so you don't get too many WUs. If your computer estimates lowball finish times you will get WAY too many WUs!

I am running a GTX 670 and that gives me an average of approx 6400 ... and completeion times around 2 - 3 minutes; some Astopulse WUS have completion times around 30-50 minutes, but those give much more points.
I think the problem may be that you are running 3 WUs at each GPU - that could slow down SEti@home. I am running my GPUs one WU at a time ...
However, I have not been following the discussions at all ... so YMMV.

RAMDISK

http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk/

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1419443

From the manual.

. CAD programs
. Software compilers
. Databases
. Speeding up CD duplication
. SETI processing ... WOW Event
. TEMP files
. Swap space
. Web server cache
. Custom applications with high I/O, high bandwidth, or high security requirements

That's what I get for thinking when back in 2004 when I loaded a game in ramdisk they wern't as stable but it's improved now I see and its free for up to a 4 GB RAMDISK.

<TIM TAYLOR><MORE POWER> UGH!
