@ Pockey,

😀 it is supposed to also be quite colorful at the WOW-Event.

the SETI@Home server goes offline every Tuesday for weekly maintenance. usually it comes back online in 24 hours or less...i have no idea why it isn't back up yet.

There is a note at BOINCstats that there is maintenance which should end by Thursday ... now I wonder: which timezone? Thursday UTC or Thursday California time? 😉

kinda sucks that they scheduled a several-day maintenance at the start of the Wow! event...hopefully we're back up and running sometime today, b/c my 3-day work buffer is more than half-way gone now...

yep, I ran out and the requests keep getting deferred...........

Web site says database is slow for some "unknown" reason and they are monitoring it.

Not a good start......... errr......😡

Boinc has been having Issues for about 2 weeks now. I crunch Wcg and we all have felt the pain. Why they decided to do system "maintenance" right before the start of such an event is anyone's guess. So uploads and downloads will be spotty at best.

i think we should keep in mind that even if the 3-day maintenance had gone flawlessly, the upload server would have inevitably been bogged down when the project first came back online anyways, as all the hosts out there try to upload their stock piles of finished results. subsequently, it is inevitable that the validators get bogged down next as they try to process all the results that just pushed and shoved their way through the upload server. and so it is inevitable that things remain bogged down even after the project server goes back up b/c it has to play "catch-up" for a while.

meanwhile, the data-driven web pages (the server status page and the message boards) have been back online for ~4 hours now. about 4 hours ago, my host reported 660 Multibeam tasks LOL. over the last 30 minutes, my number of pending tasks have decreased by ~400, and my number of valids has increased by that same amount. so i think that's a good sign anyways. also, i'm able to download new tasks again.

Yep, still spotty here this am. I have some GPU WUs going and some CPU WUs, and some totally idle crunchers still............ :\

It's a shame that the race got off to this kind of start. (over 400 users now, that's pretty cool 😎 )

update: Bug in server affecting older BOINC clients with NVIDIA GPUs

it turns out they've discovered a bug in the project server. its causing GPU hosts that are running older versions of BOINC (how old is not specified) to automatically run multiple GPU tasks in parallel, even if those hosts are only supposed to run 1 task at a time. so they've suspended distribution of nVidia work, which really sucks for those of us running an up to date version of BOINC and have multiple nVidia GPUs.

*EDIT* - how's it going for everyone so far? despite the supposed suspension of nVidia work distribution server side, i continue to get new CUDA tasks for my dual GTX 560 Ti's...

another project update from project administrator Eric Korpela...looks like things should be getting back to normal soon:

We've installed a fix from David Anderson that we hope will solve the problem. If you have a BOINC version 7 client, the problem never affected you, and you can stop reading this now.

If you use BOINC version 6, you are probably affected. The fix we installed will not fix workunits that have already been downloaded. For that, you've got four options. 1) Abort all your CUDA tasks. 2) Upgrade to BOINC v7 or 3) Exit BOINC, edit your client_state.xml to replace all the occurrences of "<type>NVIDIA</type>" with "<type>CUDA</type>" or 4) Just let it run and deal with a few reboots.

SETI@home is just one of the many other projects sharing the SSL-buildings and has no control of when there's power-outages, either for unforseen reasons like the short earlier this year, or for scheduled work to the power-systems.

My best computer is still does not have any work since the power outage and another has only partial work. The rest are going full tilt. It seems a little unusual.

I have rebooted, re-attached, updated etc., but "communications deferred" is the constant message...........

Does anyone else have a similar issue??

i'm only crunching SETI@Home on one machine, so i can't personally confirm this behavior.

This race was interesting to say the least.

I've never run into anyone with over 300 computers in a race.....LOL.... (and I thought the GPU Users were fast), Otherwise, it was fun.

I'm going to throttle back my main computer a bit but stay on SETI a while longer, just until I get to a another personal milestone.

Until the next race........

unfortunately the project server started having problems yesterday evening and still hasn't gotten back to normal. there are ~9 hours left in the race, and i can't get any new work :|...

Thank you, [2W]SEARCHER, for inducing us to take part in this race. It has been fun and more than 90 million points were crunched. That is very good. Now lets wait if there is a second Wow-signal ... 😉
