SETI@home question...

After finally fixing the issue that caused a lack of WU's from my rig, I wondering if I should be crunching on both my CPU & GPU or just one? 😕

Thanks in advance!

Both - the load on the CPU when crunching GPU-WUs is quite small: For my phenom x 4 processors I did crunch 3 CPU-WUs @ 100%, 1 CPU-WU @ 92 - 95% and the GPU-WU @ 100&. It gets hot though ...

What GPU have you got?

Good to hear your crunching again btw 🙂

I've got a nVidia GeForce 8600 GT in my desktop rig 😱

Thanks and cheers again for your assistance in getting me up and running again Assimilator1!:gift:

How many ppd do you get from the 8600GT?

I'm not sure to be honest, how do I figure that out? 😱🙁

Hmm, well I'm guessing here but I would imagine your GPU is listed as a seperate computer in your BOINC SETI stats, in which case their should be an RAC number. Although that's only any good if you've been running if for a few weeks. Otherwise look at the individual WU times & scores.

As far as I can tell, my GPU isn't listed as a seperate computer 😕😱

Here's something that's probably been asked before...

How do I go about setting seti up to run on my GPU?

You have to set up seti@home. In your seti-preferences in your account, you need to answer the following question with a "yes": "Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available?"
If you have a GeForce GPU (295 - 9600 Xxx) the it supports CUDA and then you don't have to do anything more. The seti-app recognises the GPU, signals the project which then sends the correct applications and WUs ...
But you need to have the latest driver for the card, it has to enable and include CUDA; probably the best version would be 185.85 (please click here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_185.85_whql.html )

If it is some other GPU it depends if the GPU supports a CUDA-enabling driver. If yes, then see above. If not you may be out of luck.

But I may be wrong ...
