Or some other WU storing program

OK ,I know I did this poll sometime back (a very long time ago I think actually!;)) but many new members have joined us since then & some probably don't know about it.
Ideally everyone in our team should be using it (or something similar)
Here's the link for it

BTW anyone using SETI Hide?

I couldn't figure out how to use SetiQ with the command line client on one machine, so I made my own little 4-WU-storing batch program. :)

That means I can't hide SETI, though.

With the exception of last weeks problems, it seems like seti's servers have gotten a lot more stable/reliable.

With setiq, you still have a single point of failure (the box running setiq). I suppose you could run multiple setiq servers, but that seems like a pain... seems like a lot of pain for not a lot of gain.

SETI hide is a totally seperate program from SETIQ ,here's the link for it.

If you would still like to use SETIQ then maybe I could help you.

Maybe ,but it would be a machine you have access to ,unlike the SETI servers.:)
BTW for people on dail up it can be used for reducing the number of connections ,not to mention that you can keep track of how well each machine is running SETI courtesy of the result log that SETIQ keeps.

Aside from SETIQ getting you through the server outages if you are away from your machines for a long time ,eg too busy with work!:Q;)or you are on holiday etc. ,then they can carry on crunching SETI :)

Oh yeah ,did mention that the SETIQ homesite has more SETI stats for you? (when enabled)

Answer: Nope, didn't know about it.

I have a question. I left my computer on last night closing all the programs and just leaving SETI on. In 8 hours with nothing elses going on it only does 33%? That's around 4% an hour, and now that I'm actually using my computer, it's done 4-5% in half an hour. Anyone have any idea what might be slowing it down?

I was using SETIBuf, but have now switched over to SETI Driver. The main reason is so I can cache more work units while I go on vacation next week. I hope this wasn't a dumb move.

goog,

have you got a screen saver other than SETI ???
If so, make SETI the screen saver, and set it to go to blank screen in 0 minutes...

Good Luck

Seti is set as the screensaver, and the power saving thing for the monitor is set to one hour, hard drives set to never off.

I'll try turning them all off when I get home.

::raises hand:: I use SETIQ! It's great when you have a dial-up connection that the GUI can't dial itself. Also helps when the server explodes. :)

Check the SETI screen saver settings ,'blank screen' must be checked & set to less than 5mins to get good WU times.
BTW what spec is your PC?

Inccidently I have my 2nd HDD power down after 30mins with no effect on SETI times.
When did you join us BTW?

I don't have any scheduled tasks. I'll try out your advice when I get home. I joined about a week ago. My computer is:
Celeron 466@583
160 mb RAM
15gb and 8gb hd
Win 98 SE
Erazor X SDR

What should be the average time to complete a WU for my computer?

When I need extra units, I download them into separate directories,
Then I process them at my leisure.

I use SetiQ at home (4 PC's as of tonight) and work (about 14 PC's). Both of my SetiQ "servers" are on good UPS's that will keep them up longer than any Seti client I have. Honestly, I can't see any reason not to run SetiQ in that case. When my client ATX boxes get hit with a power outage they're down anyway. My SetiQ servers make it through and all of my clients on UPS's make it through just fine. The boxes that were killed in the outage would've been down anyway. On top of this is the real reason for running SetiQ. We all get 3-4 days worth of WU's in case the SETI servers are down. Thankfully that hasn't been a problem lately but it's always nice on the rare occasion we had just recently...

Rob

Edit: I thought I'd add that if you're using SetiQ to manage a herd it wouldn't be a bad idea to use SetiWatch to monitor it. It makes it a lot easier to keep track of your clients.

goog40: I've got a C366@500 CAS3 and it does WU's in the 9-10 hour range. You should be doing a bit better than that with your box if it's left idle. Kill any screen savers and power saving features except the monitor power down.
