SETI@home command line CPU usage question

I run Seti@home command line on my office network. I just recently started using it on my home PC (P4-2.8C, winXP) but my CPU usage for that process only show 49-49%. I thought it was supposed to use all the spare cycles for a CPU. My work PCs show 90+.

Why doesn't my home PC show more usage? I show having 48+ idle. Is it something to do with it being hyperthreading?

Hmm. XP wont let me run two applications of it.

use setidriver to set the maximum processes to 2.

or make a new directory and put seti in there and run from there

use setidriver to run multiple (two) instances on your HT enabled pc 🙂

EDIT: doh - elfenix beat me to it.

That should do it...also...jump into the Distributed Computing forum for more info.

Yep, I believe with HT you have to run 2 instances of SETI to get 100% CPU power, but I'm not sure.

Nope ,even with just 1 instance you should still get near 100% cpu useage I believe

Can someone confirm that?

That explains the unknown names😉

Well with my dualie, i have to run 2 processes to get 100% usage.
I believe its the same with a hyperthreaded P4?

i just built a 2.6ghz hyperthreaded single processor pc and it would only let seti use half the processor unless hyperthreading is turned off in bios. didn't get to try running 2 processes of seti.

SETI runs faster (as in greater output ,but higher WU times) with HT enabled & 2 processes running.
If you do a search you'll find at least a couple of recent threads discussing this & showing results🙂

Inccidently bernse ,are you in a SETI team?
If not ,fancy joining Team Anandtech?

Btw ,good to see you about SETIDude🙂
