SETI Email Server Hacked?

The email is from this sender:

Sir Arthur C. Clarke and Dan Werthimer [donors@ssl.berkeley.edu]

It has nothing in the body of the email but there are 7 attachments (.txt, .gif, .jpg, and .html files). The .txt file is named seti_letter.txt.

I'm on the SETI email distro list so I wonder if this email is legit? Has anyone else received this email today? I got it at 5:45 ET...

Yes, I also got such an letter. It seems legit to me.
It is a letter asking for donations to the SETI-program.
My virus scanner found no problem at all.

I've given money to Seti in the past, just 25. But I've spent a decent amount of money on crunching machines, so I could technically add that into the total 'donation'. 😛

Yeh, I hate to sound so negative. SETI is something I really believe in and it's a good cause, so maybe I should pony up with some dough. 😎

I set up a $20/month contribution that's automatically deducted from my checking account. It's a painless way to contribute larger amounts.

Wow! generous 🙂

Personally I've made 1 direct donation to S@H ,but I'm also a member of The Planetary scoiety ,so I pay through that ,ought to be enough😛
