Wow, that's quite a good spread, I guess most of them don't show up here then
Now I see that you have custom names for the clients (ie. "Smoke's Home Queue"). That's what I was asking about a month or so ago. How did you do that?

No offense intended but you do know you're talking about (IMO) 2 of the most important members of this team, right? Either way, the team of Crazy Smoke is no different than the Federation, Rebal Alliance, BnT, or any other mini-team. The main draw of Distributed Computing is competition and I think having mini-teams increases competition as well as production so in the end the entire team benefits. That said, how can they be a bad thing?

:D Congrats to Crazy Smoke! :D

I see no reason for mini-teams really. It skews the ranking system for individual achievements. That's why there is a "group" ranking, for teams. The normal account ranking is for individuals. It makes the individual ranking system completely obsolete.

If anything it kills competition having mini-teams, because it discourages the individual trying to move up in rankings for fun. I know they're no different than the other mini-teams, which is equally lame (in regards to the individual account ranking system, not necessarily the people involved). You get the same production if the 2 or more people crunch with their own accounts as you do if they're together. What's to stop the TeAm from ALL using the same account for SETI2 just to be #1 in the individual account system? Sounds pretty unfair to the individual account holders that enjoy moving up in the rankings competing against other individuals. A team is for team play, that's why there is a "group ranking" listing. I don't see a Group Ranking, Mini-Team Ranking, and Individual Ranking listed. Granted it would be near impossible to police individual ranking, as it would mostly be a voluntary thing and we all know people are untrustworthy in these types of situation. Someone always has to cheat the system to move up in the rankings.

Granted 250k is great if it's only 2 people. That still equates to 125k each individually. But if it's like 50 people it's pretty silly to not just form your own team.

You make a decent point however I must still disagree. I'm an individual running my entire fleet (including many office machines) under my own account. The Crazee Smoke team is now ahead of me in overall production and I'm not discouraged in any way. My production didn't go down as a result of them merging their accounts and passing me. In fact, my production has actually increased since I've been passed. It's totally unrelated to being passed, I'm just making a point.

Also, in the case of the Crazee Smoke team, Greg (Smoke) has been recruiting members to produce under his ID for a while now. As individuals they would make a small impact but together as TeAm Smoke they are a force. Plus Greg's gone out of his way to assist these recruited members with computer support in return for running SETI.

But to answer your question, there's nothing stopping an entire group or team from running under a single ID. I doubt you'll see it happen and even if it did they wouldn't be cheating anyone. It's not as though any mini-teams are disguising themselves as a single ID or anything. Maybe I'm too "TeAm focused" but I couldn't care less about my individual stats. As I said before, find a user with as many or more WU's than I have and I'll let them merge my account into theirs as long as they stay on TeAm Anandtech.

Well if it wasn't for the Rebel Alliance Miniteam we would still be in 7th as I would not have been able to get my friends and coworkers crunching any other way as most of them have no interest in joining Anandtech or in coming to this site. By having a miniteam for them to join it gives them a common interest and helps to keep them crunching

Wow :Q Thanks everyone for the kind words :D

Sorry things have been out of control at work with stupid users connecting to their webmail and getting their machines infected with mydoom.f :|

I haven't been around as much lately as I would like to be. I am hopeful that things will settle down a little and I will have more time here again as well as a chance to get the Death Star fully operational again
