SETI and power schemes in XP

I've been having a slight problem with my screen saver and power schemes since running SETI. Usually if there is nothing going on with my computerand only the desktop is there, the screen saver and monitor power down will not work. When I leave something running ie Mozzilla the screen saver and power schemes work fine. This happens with SETI set as the screen saver, always running, or not. It also does the same thing with a normal screen saver.
Any thoughts?

Don't run the Screen saver version........
Install the Cli version ..................

I just spent 10 minutes writing a beautifully detailed help message on this topic and accidentally clicked the CANCEL button instead of the PREVIEW button ... and lost it all. :|

A short version:

Check your SCREEN SAVER section of your DISPLAY PROPERTIES.

In the POWER section: Make sure you have NEVER in these three blocks:

TURN OFF HARD DISKS
SYSTEM STANDBY
SYSTEM HIBERNATES

If you use the CLI CLIENT as my fellow TeAm Mates have already recommended and you wanted to have as much of the CPU working on SETI as possible ... select BLANK.

From time to time I actually like to use WEB SHOTS. I especially like the collections dealing with astronomy and undersea life. 🙂

BTW, I don't recognize your name on our SETI TEAM. Have you joined up? 😀
 
I tried the screensaver version first against all advice because I liked the graphics. (I am a sucker for neat graphics) But I quickly saw that it was spending most of its time just doing the neat graphics and not doing calculations. Anyway the SETI Driver/CLI version IS the best way to ?crunch numbers?.

And I also set screen saver to "blank" as Smoke suggested. Since I have my monitor set to turn off in 15 min., I almost never see the screen saver anyway.

Ok,.. I just D/L'd the CLI etc.... it looks like it has added my previous seti@home stuff to team anandtech.
So now do I just add/remove programs the old seti @home?

I had not joined,....didn't really know about it, just used seti for stress testing my OC's and stuff,.... but I think I'm there now. How do I confirm?

Obviously, that is not you. 🙂

Most people recommend that once you have installed the CLI CLIENT, you'd best uninstall the GUI version to avoid any conflicts. Some people have run them alternately .... so they can look at the pretty graphics once in a while. To each his own on that. 😉 🙂
