Next week I'm getting a hyperthreading-capable mobo and CPU. Is it possible to use this to run two copies of SETI on the same PC with no interference? Anyone done it?

Hyperthreading works BEST when running 2 different projects, which use seperate "bits" of the CPU, as HT is best when 2 different processes are happening.

However, saying that, there shouldn't be any problems with running 2 instances of Seti. If you're using SetiDriver, just set the Max Processes to 2, and it will be fine :)

Hmmm... That makes a lot of sense. Thanks, Confused.

The thing that bugs me a little about HT on these processors is that the cache is only 512k, so 256k per thread. I wonder if that's actually how they're going to get more life out of the c revisions this close to the Prescott, by adding bigger caches in the fall.

BTW, prices are already dropping a bit, and I might drop the extra $50 for a 2.8c.

I would go with the one with the lower multiplier, and overclock the hell out of it, increasing the FSB as high as I can! That'll give a better speed increase :)

Actually, I'm kinda nervous about OC'ing such an expensive processor. Especially as an OC n00b.

Overclocking is easy! All you have to do is take the FSB up by about 5 at a time, until it crashes, then back down to the last stable block of 5, then increase 1 at a time until it's as high as it can go and still be stable :) If it can run your DC project, as well as Prime95 in a torture test for a few hours, then it's stable enough :)

On OCing, I'd like to give you one piece of advice. ;)

Use an Image Backup (such as Ghost) to either a 2nd hard drive or a partition before you start OCing. That final push may very well kill your OS. Being only 15 - 20 minutes away from where you were will be much appreciated when the inevitable happens. :p
