SETI and gaming help!

Is there a way to get SETI and games to play nice together? I am using SETISPy and Setidriver and trying to play UT and Dungeon Seige. Every Time I play Setispy goes idle. If I bump Setidriver up to normal vice low the games are so slow they are unplayable. Any help on how to play and crunch at the same time? I really enjoy playing but it is costing me 1-2 WU's a day.

Thanks for any help.

If the game is that CPU intensive, then it will cause Seti to slow down or even stop! That's the way it's designed!

So, i guess you got 2 options: stop playing and get producing, or continue playing! 🙂😉

Like Confused said, that's normal. You want SETI to back off when other apps are trying to use the CPU. It's designed to take *idle* CPU cycles. 😉

How about building yourself a nice dual CPU system. That would rule!

Now that is a brialliant idea! Off to FS/FT to find a nice Tiger s2460. That should really help things out ya think?😀

I've had pretty good luck with WinXP. I haven't done any testing, but it seems that when I play a game on a system with WIn XP that SETI takes much less of a hit. I think it is because it does a much better job of task switching than Win9x. Any others find this to be the case?

Since most games don't use more than 1 cpu, a dual-system will most of the time give 50% to seti then playing games. Of course, you can stumble over the exception... 🙂

JWMiddleton, Win9x doesn't know that cpu-time is, so it's very easy to get long wu-times here... The gui-version doesn't use cpu-time either.

It's pretty much SETI or playing games. But not both at the same time. I don't know how long you play these games, but in the overall scheme of things a few hours here and there won't make a big difference(and even if it did, can you lay off your crack that is Jedi Knight 2?? Oops, that's my vice...). Of course, the other option is to just give up gaming. 😀 Didn't think so. 😉

On my current rig [recently built] I've noticed the same thing when playing the same games I played before, difference being th OS, currently Win XP Pro vs. Win ME.

With the release of SoF2 and GTA3 my primary home system has gone from 3hr30min average to 3hr45min! :Q

With win-cmd and NT, the average seti-times should be the same regardless of that game you're playing. The number of wu crunched on the other hand should show the same drop as in win9x.

I'm sure my WU times suffer of late because of GTA3. :Q At least when I can get the PLAY cd away from MrFluffy. 😉

I haven't really done any of the missions yet, I just like to run around in the tank with all weapons and blow up stuff..... 😀

I love to shoot down the helicopter with the bazooka. 😀

A great way to safely vent frustrations. 😀
