Forgive me if this has already been discussed...searching for stats and seti...well it found a lot of threads!

I was just wondering how people felt on the stats position? Do you reckon that Seti stats from the first project should be carried over, for people like me in the 5/600'sin position I guess it doesn't make that much difference.

I reckon that the inactive members should be removed from the runnings though, I guess they will since they effectively won't be signing up for Seti 2.

I've been doing SETI@Home since the early days and I could live with either way. If they keep the stats it would be a way of saying "thanks" to all the veterans who've been with the project a while. However, if they start the stats over they might attract new people to the project because it's starting from the beginning and they wouldn't have to compete against long term members to rise in the rankings.

One thing I'm certain they need to do is eliminate the cheaters and ban them when found! :|
 
personally I think they should start the stats over for the newbies to have an even scoreboard with the "old dogs" and to clear out all those that cruched like 2 or 3 WU's and quit, thier stats are still up, even though they only participated for a little while.

There are inactive folks that stopped running SETI due to reasons such as cheating and are waiting for BOINC to get back into it. So, don 't count all of them out.

I also suspect that the numbers will be reset to Zero. They may put something by your name to indicate your SETI I participation. SETI management has been very quiet about their plans and I doubt that we will know until it happens. No matter what they do they will pi$$-off folks.

I just wish they would do something, even if it is wrong!!
 
Whenever SETI switches to the BOINC platform they will have to reset the stats because of the way BOINC will handle stats. A completely different thing that the current "work unit".

Sounds like this applies to any future projects that want to use the BOINC platform too.
